So the answer is every single player needs to score goals to make up the contribution of one or two stars the team won’t have. Seeing as the Wings basically refused to score goals last year, there’s still a long way to go.

Also Carolina fucking sucks and I hate the way they play so if that’s the Wings future that’s a bit of a bummer.

This feels like common sense. There’s no definition for “star” and “superstar”, but it shouldn’t need to be said that multiple star players can be just as good as one superstar. If Raymond can improve, a trade can be made, and Lalonde can guide the team better, Larkin can put up point totals that put him in the top of the league. Berggren can easily be a 20 goal scorer. Rasmussen will only become more valuable over time. If multiple prospects work out, they’ll be a fantastic supporting cast.

We don’t need a superstar, we just need a balanced team with players sticking to an effective style of hockey.

I’m still not convinced we don’t have a superstar in the prospect pool, waiting to be drafted, or currently on the team. Sure, there is no one we can point to *right now* and say they are a superstar, but I don’t think that means no one currently in the org lacks the potential.

I think our depth and organizational excellence will be key here. If we have 4 *solid* lines we will be incredibly difficult to play against. Sure, maybe our first line wont be as good as a team with a bonified superstar, but if we can get favorable matchups on our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines due to depth, we’ll be fine. Without resorting to a Carolina style of play, that it looks like no one wants.

Like Yzerman says, do the right things. If we just keep doing that, someone will rise to the occasion. Wishful thinking, yes. But that’s what we’ve got.

I think if we have adequate, reliable depth, then it’s possible. Seattle is living proof of that. Meanwhile, Edmonton just got knocked out despite two elite talents supported by minimal depth.

Seider will be a superstar but he isn’t going to produce like an offensive superstar will. It’s rare that a team wins the cup without multiple legitimate elite offensive skaters as in a superstar supported by multiple stars forwards. There are several Red Wing forwards (I.e. Raymond and Larkin) that could support a superstar.

So, here’s the thing. Idk about Seattle, but I watch a lot of Carolina. Roster wise, there’s a more than fair comparison between what Carolina is and what the Wings conceivably could be.

That said, the differentiating factor here is Rod the Bod. Brind’amour is a special kind of coach that simply does not grow on trees, and his system is a special one that not every coach – great coaches included – has the brains *and* the chops to pull off. Brindy has built his team ostensibly by example and in his own image as an elite grinding and extremely well conditioned team. LaLonde has been a fine coach so far, but I don’t know if he – or many coaches really – could emulate the Canes past a certain point.

Bultman’s is not a copium opinion. In fact, it’s really the only meaningful path forward with Detroit lacking truly elite talent in the multiple positions that elite teams have it. But grain of salt when thinking about the Canes as a comparable; it’s a lot more than just “Larkin is comparable to Aho and Seider can be better than any single Canes dman.”

  8. Only two teams in the past like 40 years have done it

I’m not exactly a believer it can happen

Having super stars worked out well for BOS EDM and TOR in this year’s playoffs..

  10. Twizzlor

We haven’t had a 40 goal scorer since Marian Hossa in ’09. 🙁

I don’t think so unfortunately. St Louis was a 1/million shot
