The New York Rangers top prospects draft pick from the 2017 NHL Entry Draft is quite the polarizing one. His name is Lias Andersson, and he’s been the subject of NHL trade rumours for months, ever since he fled both the Rangers and their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, earlier in 2019.

Well, it turns out the trade rumours may have no bearing for the next little while, as it has just been reported that the Rangers GM and coach are trying their best to bring him back.

  1. I say we put him on the 3rd line put him on power play 2. If he does good 2nd line then

  2. I dont't think andersson refers to "bullied" as harassment but as to having a serve lack of opportunity in the way that petrus palmu and kole lind experienced in their rookie ahl seasons. The rangers probably want to show him that they still respect him as a prospect and value his skillset because they want him to play in the playoffs where every game matters.

  3. I think hes going to click with kakko and galthier.. thank god he has players that he can pass to… he was lias Peterson center am i RIGHT?

  4. If it's a well managed Type 1 Diabetes (like Kakko) there isn't a greater risk of contracting the virus nor is there a greater risk of complications arising (unless there is a secondary condition at play).
Re: Andersson … you shouldn't expect much from a production standpoint when you're played on a 4th line with a brawler and a marginal NHL player while getting about 7-8 minutes a night of playing time. I generally like David Quinn, but he botched Lias Andersson's development — misread the kid completely and favored other lesser players (ahem, Howden). So if DQ's attitude towards Andersson doesn't change, there's really no point bringing him back to NY (let him build up his trade value in the SHL). 4th line is fine, but he needs to play at least 11-12 minutes a night and with better players, like Gauthier and Lemieux (or DiGiussepe) — or in the event the Rangers trade Strome and move Chytil up to the 2nd line, then on a 3rd line. Otherwise this is all a waste of time.

  5. Remember this was the same kid that won a silver medal at the WJC and immediately threw it into the stands…. lol… Lias making emotional decisions is who he is, so I think he'll come back to the NYR when he's calmed down…

  6. In interviews Lias has said that it was bad behaviors with late night gaming, very low confidence which led to sleeping problems. He even started to take sleeping pills from time to time. It was more of a lack of support system i guess and several minor things that went wrong and it all escalated. So he took the chance before it got even worse and got away from it all and went back to Sweden. Now he's happy, healthy and enjoys hockey again. I think it's sane to choose your own health before hockey and I'm sure Lias is stronger mentally now and ready to play in the NHL again.

  7. This is likely more obvious then many realize. If he comes back, and plays just OK, they can likely trade him for some reasonable return. Cheap third line centers are always in demand. Or they can work it out, and keep him in the fold. It’s a win/win for him to come back.

  8. He’s got 2nd line potential. He was the 2nd best defensive forward on the team in the preseason, only behind Zibanejad. Hopefully he reaches that potential with the Rangers… but I’m doubtful… Quinn seems to have something against this guy

  9. Id tell him to dont come back to NY and then trade him in the off season or at draft… hes a whiny cancerous player who isnt that good

  10. Can we please give him one more chance? It’s either him or Brett Howden. Take your pick rangers fans. I know who I’m taking
