  1. Watching Dubas and Keefe being interviewed reminds me of Ned Flanders. So careful not to ruffle any feathers when thats exactly what needs to be done. Where's the anger the piss and vinegar getting off script and asking why every other team wants it more than we do every frickin year!!!! No one is ever taken to task! No grit or heart and with that mind set they have created the worst team money can buy. Stop supporting these bums! Fool me once shame on you fool me twice……. hello Leafs Nation it's many many time now if you continue to support them……. now it's on you !

  2. Bourne is clueless. He thinks like Matthews: Give me the money first and then I'll earn it. Kyper has the experience to know how hockey truly work!

  3. On the winning goal why wouldn't the Leaf player tell the refs that his stick was held and then have a review of the play? Happens all the time in football and football is quite successful.

  4. What a pathetic team and city.
    Run by the worst people.
Whether it be sports, politics or media.
    A wannabe world class city.

  5. Brilliant commentary by Nick all the way through. I listened twice, first live on the radio, then later here to review his points. Some take-aways on Matthews for me were: "You can't win with this guy." Here Nick nails it, and explains why. And then the question: " Is he playing for the money?" Followed by the discussion on whether Matthews is willing to take less to help increase their chances to win a cup. In other words, what is the man's prime goal? The highest paid player in the NHL? Or the cup? And third, Nick's interpretation of Matthews' subtle negotiation, that being if he doesn't get the desired deal by July 01, then don't talk to me until the end of the term.

Matthews holds all the cards. As a life-long (somewhat skilled), trained negotiator myself, you quickly learn in business that you must negotiate from strength, or else you usually get eaten alive at the table. Kyle has never learned this lesson, its painfully obvious. Even now, KD by his posturing is resorting to a bid of sympathy from MLSE.

My advice to the board at this point, and it makes me rather sad to say it, guys, you need to replace this GM and trade Matthews. You cannot have a player, any player, especially one touted as a superstar, who is obviously less than stellar, as the tail wagging the donkey. MLSE is a 2.5 billion dollar franchise, and you have to act like it. Hiring both an inexperienced President, then GM on training wheels for 5 years has left this team in shambles. It's a mess. Face it and deal with it. Find a GM with four qualities, experience, respect among peers, steely metal, and good horse sense. He may be hard to find, but find that person and repair the damage.

  6. I agree with Kyper. Matthews will never change, he is who he is. He's not a leader, not driven in the playoffs, and they will not win with him. He wants Dubas around because he knows Kyle will give him what he wants. Trade him, The Kings want him. Lot of teams would have interest. If he wants more than 12M, but only wants to do 4 years, decision should be easy, cut him loose. We saw the real Matthews when he had that stupid grin on his face as he was being tossed around like a rag doll in the series vs. the Habs. Marner had the same stupid look as Tkachuk gave him a few shots to the head a week ago.

  7. should run the leafs by a poll of us old guys who know the score. we ALL now how to build a cup run team. why the fk doesnt dubas!!?!?!??

  8. It would have been nice to see a similar roster they finished as to more or less be the team they began the season with.

  9. Why are we talking about bringing ANY of them back???? they ALL have shown that they CANNOT win in the playoffs for 7 YEARS now. Time to get a NEW president in who can make SMART moves to BUILD a tough, skilled team of WINNERS.

  10. Kyper is spot on. Matthews should have been on a bridge and then an 8 year. but hey, he's a LOSER in the playoffs WHAT do we even want him for?!?!?!?!!? some reg season goals? not me. give me a Thachuck any day

  11. We also have to remember the recent Dubas trades reflected and pertained to next years roster also. It was about winning this year but also where they will be next year how ever the chips dropped. I like the learning curve they're on. Dubas should be given the option to work and manage through it.

  12. "Matthews loves the culture dubas has created" BECAUSE there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY and LOADS of golfing time! SHANNY OUT!

  13. Sheldon Keefe: "Again, that's a hard question to answer……..(because I can't really tell you the honest answer, I may still have to be coaching these guys next year….."

  14. I can safely say my dad would rather have Nick Kypreos as the GM than Kyle Dubas at this point. Seriously Leafs fans stop accepting mediocrity. The core needs to be broken up and nobody is taking Tavares. Also the team at this point is so overrated. You got two good d-men, average goaltending at best and the star players prop the team up. Kyle Dubas is not a genius of a GM. Stop treating him like he is that. He wouldn't have such a flawed roster if he was a genius. Oh and Kyper I can't believe you have to deal talking with these clowns. They are homers and don't get it. You have to give up something to get something better. Something better is winning Stanley Cups. This Leafs team looks like 80's Capitals and needs to stop being that.

  15. ' I promise Im doing my best I make mistakes, im human, I will improve. But pay me NOW ' – Leafs 2022-23.

  16. Marner has to go, the other teams know how to render him ineffective, the refs keep their whistles in their pockets during playoffs, so it becomes rough out there. Marner doesnt like it, I never did. What is best for the team…

  17. Nylander is strong. I love they way he can one hand push/throw a player out of his way as he's creating an opening

  18. This is my take. When your offense goes through a guy that gets bumped off the puck easily and can't make space for himself, you either need to play him with guys that can make space for him or you replace him with a guy that can make plays under pressure. I don't really watch football but it's like letting your qb who makes really great passes when he has time and space get instantly demolished on every play.

  19. " .. felt as if we had more hockey in us .. " meanwhile; in the real world, you didn't have enough hockey.
