I think Laviolette would make sense here. Babcock might just be due dilligence.

I’d rather Jarmo call Brad Larsen and say “we were just kidding you can coach another season” than have Mike Babcock step foot in the home locker room at Nationwide Arena.

Laviolette and PV are fine, but Babcock? Nah no way no how

  4. tristanje

I’d rather have Vincent if these are the only 3 options.

  5. I_Smell_Like_Farts

Oof. The only pick worse than Vincent would be Babcock.

The NHL has no new ideas. Keep re-treading the same coaches over and over.

    Hire something different.

Jarmo do some of that off-the-board stuff with your coaching hire please.

  7. JAT_Cbus1080

If Jarmo hires Babcock I want it to be the last thing he does on behalf of this team.

I know there will be some people that will get up in arms if they go with Vincent and do another internal hire. But I honestly don’t think Vincent is that bad of a choice.. Out of these, I would love to see Laviolette be the one to emerge. He makes the playoffs more often than not in his head coaching history, can get out of the first round, and he has won a cup, even if it was nearly two decades ago.

But for the LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY .. Never let Babcock into Nationwide Arena again, unless he is there to get whooped while representing a visiting team.

Wow. I’m not going to lie, this feels like a real lack of imagination from our front office.

Vincent seems like a decent option but *another* internal hire will be a tough sell.

Laviolette is more of a win now coach than a guy who develops young players (although it wouldn’t be a bad choice.)

And where to even begin with Babcock. Give me Patrick Roy before that guy, at least Roy doesn’t just straight up abuse players.

  10. SenorWingsuit

Laviolette is the only choice out of those three in my mind.

I’m willing to give Vincent a shot. He seemed really smart in interviews.

I don’t mind Laviolette so long as Vincent and Pecknold are assistants who are allowed to dictate the structure of play. Like a Lindy Ruff type situation.

Can’t see why they would go for Babcock.

  12. paulskiwrites

Hmm. Doing due diligence or are GMJK and JD starting to show some decision making exhaustion?

  13. kinkulaattori

starting to become a meme but Jukka Jalonen please?

  14. howinteresting127

I would rather use the Elephant’s Foot at Chernobyl as a bed than see Babcock behind the Jackets’ bench

  15. willingplankton

Well, I become a full time Flyers fan if either of those guys gets hired, especially Babcock. What dreadful news.

Can’t wait to see y’all soon Jarmo interviewing Babcock into a positive light

  17. clownpuncher13

If they wait a few weeks I have a feeling that Ted Lasso will be available.

  18. cookingwiththeresa

    Yikes

ETA: I was hoping for more originality of thought here in coaching candidates

  19. gilbert-brule

If Jarmo is willing to stick his neck out on another internal hire, he must REALLY like Vincent.

  20. HardKnockRiffe

    Stop going for re-treads…

Brunette, Warsofsky, or Leach would be my preferred targets.

I’m a little shocked to see Babcock on there. Who on earth thinks that would work?

I won’t pretend to know whether Vincent has what it takes, but I am really turned off by the idea of hiring internally.

After BL went, we heard rumors of a culture issue. If that is true, then PV was already in house for that, and either had so little leadership and say that he was not part of it, or he was part of it.

I am so nervous. We can’t afford to make the wrong choice again. Johnny isn’t getting younger. We need someone who can come in and immediately reset the culture, and implement a modern, organized, style of play. We have to catch up fast in the most basic areas, like the breakout and zone entry.

When you watch the PO’s, the one thing you instantly see is that there is nothing more important that the quick transition out of your own zone, and moving into the opposing zone at speed.

  22. Filthy casual here, but what about Gallant?

  23. buddencebunny

Babcock’s the odious name you leak so that the slightly less palatable guy you pick makes your management seem reasonable.
