What to do? Pick one. It doesn’t work with both.

    “just get to the inside”

I stopped here. Obviously it’s an important metric in hockey but like it’s the playoffs, majority of the time you score off the other teams mistakes, not because you’re just commanding play. Obviously you have those games but historically, you play a much heavier and tighter game, keeping players to the outside and they only get inside when you fuck up a read/play.

A perfect world and all that.

The Leafs fell short because our star players didn’t elevate their game to the system. They struggled on the breakout (this system always has) and they didn’t force Florida into making very many mistakes. When they did, they controlled play but didn’t put the puck on net. Just cycled and cycled and cycled some more until we tried cycle again only to forget the far winger and D man are off on a change, so the puck exits the zone or D coverage picks up the weak cycle and breaks it out. We lost a ton of battles along the boards, way too many in my opinion. Especially that first line.

Point is, we lost and our core players are just entering their prime years. Whatever shakes out this summer, we are still blessed.

Move Marner for a solid D and a draft pick. The cap savings can be used to sign Samsanov and Acciari and Schenn.

How to beat the Leafs: just be physical and Marner and Matthews lose interest.
