He carried Ireland in a lot of games as well. We beat the lesser nations 3-0 or 4-0 frequently at that time, as a result of Keane driving the team on. We've very rarely beaten a team by more than one goal since he retired.
Forget Viera, forget Scholes, forget Gerrard, forget Lampard, forget De Bruyne, forget Alonso, forget Kante. Keane is the greatest CM in premier league history, no question.
Lets put this whole world class thing to bed. All this talk about Keane being world class is silly. Ronaldo, Scholes, Giggs, Rooney etc.. are/were world class but Keane was not. He was above World Class. A total one off. These world class players looked up to Roy Keane remember and what is what helped turn these guys into world class players. Those who played with and against him were in awe of him. Added bonus was he is Irish!!
Forget World Cup qualifying games or Champion's League Semi finals in Turin he was EXACTLY the same @ a pre-season under 21 United team @ The Bescot stadium, Wallsall. Keane drove the young players and bollocked them if they were not giving everything. The man was unique and had a drive unequalled, at least that I've seen over the last 35 years or so!!
Went to watch ireland train in malahide, the team were on the bus and brian kerr was being interviewed, roy slapped the window and told him to hurry up, the players were pissing themselves, but kerr jumped on the bus
The perfect balance of ability and desire. Football is embarrassing to watch these days, and ‘professionals’ should be embarrassed to be called ‘professional’.
Only fools think Roy was not a technically gifted player. His decision making was absolutely world class. Always picked the right pass, always knew when to draw on a player without possession to win it back. His spacial understanding of the game was second to none. United played to his rhythm and that's why they were so successful.
His other attributes made up for the fact that he wasn't technically great or particularly skillful. Football is a team game and it takes different types to make a good team.
Someone told me a stat about Matt Holland and I'd love to know if it's true. He said when matt Holland was captain of Ipswich and playing in centre midfield, they got relegated without him picking up a single yellow card all season. If that's true(hopefully any Ipswich fans can verify if it is or not)then he should be thoroughly ashamed of himself.
He showed leadership – a second Alex Ferguson on the pitch, could help in defence, create and score goals. A very versatile player. Also, he hardly made many mistakes. A very intense character. During his punditry work, you can still see his passion for the game and his hatred towards players who don't work hard, lazy, lack of concentration and make a mockery of the game.
When they talk about him not being the best at any of the skillset needed but I seem to remember a guy called Moore who they all said similar things about

Roy kesbe lost overrated player ever
Pogba is better
Great player but a prick of a man who had no problem carrying out premeditated assault over a game of football.

I remember Holland wasn't exactly supportive of Keane immediately post Saipan.
Impeccable footballer and a passion unmatched.

I think a team full of Keanes beats a team full of Zidanes.
Matt Holland or Billy Joe Saunders
Good player at Ipswich Holland

The interviewer doesnt even know who matt played for 🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣

Holland was a decent player as well by the way
Zidane took France to a world cup final coming out of retirement. Keane is a great but zidane is levels above
Can't stand goldstein. Cockney and a united fan. He sums the fanbase up
For Zidane to play the way he did, he had to have someone with him to take up the slack he left behind.
That's why you need a player of Keane's class.
He was like Tornado from Robot Wars.
He said you wernt even Irish Holland, just not good enough to play for England 🤣
Roy Keane was the reason man United would come back from a holiday with the McCanns!

Saw him at Forest before he was really known, he was magnificent, breath taking , honestly he looked gigantic

"we've never called Roy Keane workd class" ok thanks bye
I would take keane every single time over past and present midfielders…..

Another true Irishman In Matt Holland 😂

His standards were so high that he couldn’t cope with being a manager.
A lot of people think it was fat Fergie, but Roy was the real man driving United.
Ireland have had more English players than Irish players play for them
