I saw Crosby at a grocery store in the bahamas yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Sidney Crosby is the nicest guy ever, I’d even let him kiss me on the open mouth if he wanted to

  3. DirtyOldColt

I invited Sid into mudder’s sunroom for a blueberry grunt and a ten penny and did he not even take his rubbers off, what a sin

  4. Sarcastic__

Players are so much nicer when they don’t have to work unpaid overtime.

  5. LeafsRealist

    Don’t lie.

He purposely used the child to get in with Sid. /s

You think Sid could charge the whole thing to the penguins as a PR lunch?

  6. Top five NHL player of all time (IMO, relax). Top five human being of all time. Just a great dude all around. Not the first story I’ve read of Sid treating kids very well.

  7. AppealToReason16

I know people are saying how nice this is of Sid, but why is no one thanking Ron Hextall? Without Hextall there is no way Sid would be in the Bahamas right now.

Crosby’s always been a class act. He bakes banana bread for his teammates too.

  9. DownByTheLazyRiver

The greatest ambassador the sport has ever had

  10. shogun2909

Crosby is a class act through and through

  11. azialsilvara

Not only is he one of the greatest hockey players ever, he’s one of the best people associated with the game. What a stellar human.

  12. DanTreview

This is fodder for some killer copypasta

  13. Gagnooo

Crosby is going to pick up Arizona’s tab next

  14. TheWingus

I ***HATE*** Sidney Crosby, but I still respect his talent and would shake his hand and ask for a photo that I could then never show any of my family or friends

In 2003 I was playing AAA Atom hockey in the Cole Harbour tournament (massive tournament that happens across Halifax every March). We were playing in the final against the local Cole Harbour team. We played very well, out chancing, out shooting, and out playing our opponent, but in the end we lost 2-1.

After the game we’re told that 15 year old phenom Sid the Kid was in the stands watching and he wanted to come in and have a chat with the team. He came in and spoke to all of us and how we deserved to win the game but that things don’t always go the way they should.

He stayed in the room, chatting with us and the coaches, signing autographs, and being supportive of the team that lost to the team he grew up playing on. Absolute salt of the earth guy.

The autograph I got from him that day is still with me on the case of the 2nd place bracelet we were awarded (instead of medals for some reason).

Just goes to show how he’s always been this kind of guy. This isn’t new. It’s a true testament to him and the people who raised him.

I met Sidney Crosby at a restaurant once – we’d accidentally been given his table. Apparently he was fond of the restaurant and had a specific table he liked, and the management had messed up and gotten their days wrong, (it was Tuesday and they thought he was coming on Thursday or something like that). Anyway, the manager, completely embarrassed (this is a pretty nice restaurant) comes by and says “I’m so sorry, but we’d like to move you to another table if you could be troubled, and we’ll gladly compensate you for the cost of the meal and any other meal you’d like while you’re in town.” My sister and cousin were both like “Yeah that’s cool.” and I kind of played the asshole a bit. “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. We’ve been here for 15 minutes – we’ve just ordered. Can’t we finish our meal here?” Then out of nowhere Sidney Crosby shows up next to the manager and says “Paul, these guys can finish. We’ll be at the bar. I got some time.” And I (being a big Pens fan) said “Oh wow, uh… I had no idea. Please feel free to give them the table.” Sid was grateful, shook my hand and said thanks, then gave me a card with his number on it and told me to give him a call later. After working up the nerve, I gave him a call that night, and to make a long story short, we had a glorious 11 month love affair, man on man, that I shall never forget. Our bodies intertwined as one, and from the beauty of Morocco, to the French Riviera, to the snorkeling in the Galopagos, Sidney Crosby and I made glorious love to each other on six of the seven continents.

These kinds of stories always make me happy. A few years ago I walked into a bar with some friends after my sister’s wedding. I was pretty trashed at that point in the evening but noticed Jon Cooper at the other end of the bar. He could probably tell how excited I was and came over and chatted with us for a while and then picked up our tab. Absolutely great guy.

Then the fucker got swept by the Blue Jackets a couple weeks later.

Crosby has probably inspired more kids to start playing hockey than any other player… maybe ever

he also donates and does Ads for Tim Hortens to help kids have the chance to play

  19. Judge_Rhinohold

Absolutely disgusting that he would he vacationing in the Bahamas when he should be training harder than ever after missing the playoffs. smh

    Class organization as a whole.

In 2009 a buddy of mine was in a bad accident and spent time in a coma and then long rehabilitation. His girlfriend was a huge pens fan and stood by his side the whole time through everything.

Since I worked for a collegiate D1 football program I kinda guessed the person to reach out to, to try and get something signed by Staal, her favorite player.

Frank Buonomo who I believe is still in league with a team, hooked up a jersey, autograph, and overnight shipping without any further questions.

Got a chance to work on HBO 24/7 winter classic Pens Capitols a few years later and had a chance to thank him personally.

    Good reflection of their organization.

While it’s incredibly nice of him, famous athletes, actors, etc shouldn’t be held to a standard of “make time and be nice to every person that approaches them.” And nobody should be labeled a bad person for not taking time for people either. IMO. Of course I love to see these stories took

  22. Frog939

I was really expecting the breastfeeding copypasta

  23. CursedLemon

I was highly expecting the Keanu breastfeeding meme

  24. eatchickendaily

When Ben Roethlisberger was still playing for the Steelers, I got to hate him for being both a Pittsburgh star and a horrible person. I’m annoyed I can’t similarly hate Crosby off the ice.

  25. thesoyeroner

Im gonna ugly cry when this mf retires

  26. niels_bohrgasm

I love Sid. When he came into the league I wanted to hate him so much, division rival that torched us and had that whiny reputation. But you just can’t hate someone that makes watching the game so enjoyable. I feel so lucky to have watched his career, and have gained so much respect for him as an athlete and a person

  27. Hockeyruinedmylife

Sidney is super nice. This is not a pasta but when I met him he actually took the time to listen to what I was saying. That surprised me because he’s Sidney Crosby. He didn’t have to listen to me. He could have taken the picture and moved me along but he’s not like that. Great guy!

  28. NateB19

Sidney Crosby: demands to be underpaid to fulfill his superstitions…..still picks up the tab.

  29. skratchx

These comments are full of some top tier memes. I will, on the other hand, share a maybe apocryphal “Pittsburgh Fact” from when I lived there for six years. There was a bit of an unspoken agreement between locals and sports stars that the athletes would go to restaurants with their familes, hang out at bars, etc., and not get swarmed. I remember some anecdote about Polamalu going out to dinner with his family and picking up the tab for everyone else who was there because no one bothered him.

  30. BigShoots

I think I’ve told this on reddit before but I was at a bar in Toronto with some buddies and Erik Cole was there by himself, watching a hockey game. He was injured at the time. One of my chattier buddies started a conversation and before long he had basically joined our group and hung out for a while.

He was meeting a friend there and when they showed up he said his goodbyes and left. We found out after he left that he’d paid our whole tab.

    Great dude!

  31. EVERYONE GET TO THE BAHAMAS CROSBY’S HANDING OUT AUTOGRAPHS

  32. Alright_Pinhead

I remember seeing Sid on the patio at a restaurant with Landeskog and Cogliano following Mackinnon’s cup parade last year.

I didn’t disturb them as no one had yet realized who they were, but a few minutes later when walking back I saw a small crowd of people had formed next to their table.

Once I got a bit closer, I saw that Sid was taking pictures and signing autographs in the middle of his meal, which Landeskog and Cogliano were just laughing to each other and eating.

A fun little moment to witness, and I can see why very few people have anything bad to say about Sid even after almost 20 years in the spotlight.

  33. Sportfreunde

My favourite thing about Sidney Crosby is that he hasn’t done any gambling ads so far. Most controversial thing the man advertises is bread.

McDavid and Gretzky do gambling ads, their rich faces are plastered on betting ads as you exit Union station in Toronto. They don’t need the money from it but they do it anyways.

  34. c0sm0bee

This story remembers me another one where he practiced alone with another kid in an outdoor local hockey rink near Montreal. Great story. Real gentlement and he is my favorite player.

  35. cumulonimbus523

I ran into him in Georgia at Life University in 2012. I don’t remember why he was there, but I remember he talked to me and my dad for about 10 minutes and took a photo with us. I’m a blue jackets fan I wanted to hate him but he was a super nice guy.

  36. tictacbergerac

You may not like his play style or team, but you gotta admit he’s a stand-up guy off the ice. Always doing some community service, never had a sex or drug scandal (and I’ve never even heard a rumor). Just seems like a nice guy.

  37. Little_Bedroom

I used to not be a big Crosby fan but really I just didn’t watch him a lot. I got older and started watching old footage of him. He is possibly the best all around guy to ever play. His hockey sense is unbelievable the small little plays and chips, the edge work, his downlow play. He’s absolutely stunning to watch.
