2023 NHL Draft Profile: Barrie Colts’ Beau Akey

Beau Akey had a great start to his season with the Barrie Colts, but a quiet second half. Could he be a buy-low candidate in the second round for the San Jose Sharks? Brock Otten of McKeen’s Hockey joins to profile the right-handed defender. We chat about what makes him such an intriguing blueliner and how the return of LA Kings’ prospect, Brandt Clarke, to the Colts impacted the Akey’s season. Next, we analyze how he needs to continue to get more reps and build confidence in his game going forward and what his best NHL comparison is. Finally, Brock weighs in on the Will Smith, Matvei Michkov, and Leo Carlsson debate for the Sharks and why he would choose Smith.

  1. If we draft Will Smith… he better be a 90 point player a season, because if we miss out on Michkov or Carlsson I'll never forgive GMMG despite my grandma being his real estate agent

  2. Only 3 picks until almost round 4 is such a GMMG fail to be honest. This sort of a year is exactly the opportunity to load up on picks. Why couldn't we get someone with actual experience???? 😕And worst of all is the only good thing that's happening, which is the #4 pick is something he was actually trying to avoid, and fell into that from sheer incompetence.
