We are still waiting for decisions from Kyle Dubas on his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs but should the organization have a deadline in place? Give it to Shanahan. As president he is just a yes man for the "mysterious" board. He can handle both jobs.
56% of respondents blamed coaching or players for the failures. Dubas is responsible for both of these things. The same Dubas picked and/or backed people have failed 4 years in a row. People haven't tired of failing? Really? Regardless if the problem is the players or the coach, Dubas has stuck with them for far too long. Hopefully he just decides not to come back.
Bring in someone who understand that playoffs are won with defense and big gritty players. Not a collection of munchkins who get pushed around like balls in a ball pool.
Cassidy was available last summer and the Leafs didn't even try to get him because Dubas and Shannhan claimed that in the future Keefe was going to be one of the most respected coaches in the League. Put his name up there with guys like Cooper and Trotz. Keefe isn't an NHL caliber coach, he shouldn't being doing his on the job training on a team that should be a contender.
Who should be GM? What does Pridham think wins cups? If he doesn't drink Dubas's Koolaid about flyweights with speed and skill then give him a shot. Coach. I would prefer a young coach. Try Carbery or maybe one of Coopers assistants. Who to trade? I would move Matthews and Nylander. Matthews is a goal scorer who doesn't score in the playoffs. He was given lots of opportunities so the people setting him up did their jobs, the guy who isn't getting it done is should go. Nylander is brutal in his own end. Defense wins championships and Nylander can't defend. If they dont' want to fire Keefe and make those trades… Then trade Marner. Without those actions they aren't winning a cup so we might as well have the LOLz of watching Nylander try to defend against top competition night in and night out.
On Tavares … there is a difference between a bad player and a bad contract. Tavares going into year 6 of his deal is now on a bad contract. Should the Leafs ask him to waive his "no trade"? Absolutely! Does that mean you trade him? Not necessarily. You may not be able to get a fair return or maybe no one wants the contract. But Tavares is still a point a game player. He's useful. Put him on the wing where he now fits better and open that 2nd line Centre spot. Now we know what we need back for Marner.
Dubas is a failed experiment. Time to cut bait.
Sheldon was too loyal to Holl and Kerfoot. He has been out coached by the opponent coach. We need a different approach to see what the core 4 can do under a different coach. All supporting coach needs to go as well.

A lot has been said about Auston Matthews disappearing in the Florida series and how that leaves question marks. My thoughts on this are a little different. The guys around him are lacking grit and push back to free him up. Frankly he had to be a marked man every moment on the ice. This is basic playoff defending (see how Connor McDavid and crew got handled down the stretch in their series with the Golden Knights). The Carolina Hurricanes are no slouch and just got introduced to a healthy dose of reality against the same Florida fore check and a goalie who can stop 50 shots per game. If you look at the statistics of every Florida victory in these playoffs, one glaring stat stands out, the hits. In the only game the Leafs won, the Leafs came out hitting hard. In the ones they lost, Florida had the edge or it was close but a timely circumstances here and there (and a bad no goal call) was the difference. If hitting and timing make a series then the series was upended in game 2 where Florida pounded the Leafs all game long and quickly erased a 2 goal deficit. Want to beat these Leafs, hit them hard and hit them all night long and just score enough. That is what it takes to win the Cup, or at least make it very deep. Auston Matthews is worth keeping if possible and I feel like the other three are all expendable if any takers are available. Leafs need a few guys willing to dish out punishment and also unlock Matthew's potential in a deep playoff run. It is a pity O'Reilly won't re-sign, he is worth more than Tavares, Marner, and Nylander in terms of grit. Right now I am leaning toward Nylander as a keeper since he did score goals and is fast. Marner gets rattled even though his passes open up chances on goal when he can make them. Tavares is a bully to weak teams but tends to slow down against gritty teams. Last season, Florida were a great team on record but the Lightning smashed them. This year Florida learned and it has paid off. Sheldon Keefe isn't this kind of coach and flowing offensive hockey won't get it done when it matters most. We need a coach with a different mindset. I wonder if Dubas wants to face this kind of change.
I don't think Dubas said the Maple Leafs season was hard on his family he said to leave Toronto and uproot his family to another city is something he wouldn't put his family through. Because he said, either he will be with the Maple Leafs or if that can't be worked out then he'll step back so we won't see him popping up in another city.

Unless someone in Dubas's family is seriously ill he should shut the hell up and do his job. Considering nothing has come out yet I doubt that's the case so it just comes down to a failure looking for sympathy.
