Uh oh. It’s all becoming unravelled.

  2. tbclandot92

Not Spezz. Sure hope Leafs execs know what they are doing. Lord help whoever is next GM.

  3. urasmisis

    it’s all falling apart lol

guess spezza really believes in dubas and will follow him to his next job. i expect keefe to resign some time next week.

  4. nomdreas

I think this actually speaks more about the state of the Leafs more than anything else.

Spezza is a veteran of the league who came here on league minimum and then told other teams he would retire before playing for anyone other than the leafs.

Immediately after retiring he gets a job working directly with Dubas. If that doesn’t show you the amount of respect players have for Kyle Dubas idk what will. This is not a player that came from the Soo, or a leafs prospect. This is a very well respected vet of the league who gravitated to an amazing GM.

Spezza not wanting to be a part of the Leafs future is very troubling. It basically says that what’s going on behind closed doors is not desirable.

  5. Kreedor1

He was Assistant TO the GM, so this makes sense.

  6. Don’t read into this too much. He was assisting Dubas on his day to day. Would be weird to impose that same expectation on some unknown GM at this point. Makes complete sense for him to step down without making things weird.

  7. something1355

Would he have to resign to get promoted…as president?

  8. dynozombie

i hope keefe does too, don’t give them the satisfaction of firing

I want ownership to know how much of a bad move this was

  9. skruiss

Dubas pissed off Shanny. I say fire Shanahan and give Dubas his job.

  10. Neighbourhoods_1

Can someone explain why people are so upset over Spezza?

He seems like a great dude, but he’s done literally nothing to make us think he’d be a good coach or some valuable piece in management.

  11. Volderon90

Well. What can I say. I said a nuclear bomb would drop after that series and it has. You can go through my comment history after the game 5 loss.

This is what happens when you double down and refuse to change the core team year in and year out. I guarantee if Dubas had changed the core and made a major shakeup after Montreal we wouldn’t be here. But it’s been loss after loss after loss with no change and then now it’s just all one big bomb just going off.

  12. turtle_shock

What a dumpster fire. This is how they want to send this era off, just awesome.

  13. reggierock2010

He’s going to be joining Dubas in Ottawa lol. His loyalty was to Dubas and not shanny. He’ll follow Dubas wherever he goes.

  14. goleafsgo13

Sounds like trouble is with Shanny and above… wonder if Ryan Reynolds is still in the market.

  15. hammer_416

Edmonton ot Calgary about to hire dubas Spezza and Keefe

  16. Showtime98

Off-season already off to a terrible start

  17. Due_Entertainment_44

I’m not surprised at all. He’s Dubas’ guy. I think there will be a wave of departures in the next few weeks.

  18. howsshegoin

    I am fucking livid

seeing shanny degrade everything dubas has built should be investigated immediately

if keefe goes next I am DONE

  19. footwith4toes

I was a fun 8ish years can’t help but feel we’re gonna be another terrible franchise within 2-3 years.

  20. DevryMedicalGraduate

That Game 3 is gonna go down in Toronto sports infamy for real.

3/4 best players on the team – not Nylander, played their worst games of the season and it ended up cascading into this. If they had lost 5-4 in OT with Tavares, Marner, Matthews getting 4 points combined, it’s probably a different story but not even the XG stat heads could have defended that performance.

    Make Willy the captain.

  21. richarm87

He was an assistant to the GM (Dubas) . That GM no longer is here. So it could be as simple as they couldn’t tell him a role yet and he decided to leave die to that uncertainty.

  22. 12xubywire

    See.

    This is what we get.

    Fuck Brendan Shanahan.

Waiting for Auston to ask for a trade.

Only chance in hell we had at getting Auston for less than max dollars was Kyle.

  23. radicallyhip

Just fucking burn it all down now, fam, let’s get all the pain over with in one huge blow.

  24. JRB2000

After this latest collapse I expected Dubas to be gone, but I did not expect the end to be this surreal/messy.

  25. mazzysturr

I mean if you already have dozens of millions of dollars it’s pretty safe to quit and follow a kid that will be here longer than Shan…

  26. skygrunt

Smells like things are imploding at HQ. I think more drama incoming.

  27. ArthasCousland

I am so worried for the future of this team.

  28. Torcal4

THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A HAPPY OFFSEASON!

  29. Bobbyoot47

Do you really think that? MLSE would want to know what Dubas is thinking and they’re not prepared to wait weeks for him to sort it out. The club has to move forward now with contract negotiations, planning for the draft and quite probably getting the coaching situation sorted out. To characterize Shanahan as being all emotional about this I think it’s wrong. This is a multi billion dollar organization that operates in a business like fashion. With all due respect to Kyle Dubas there’s no way MLSE is going to wait for him to make up his mind. They obviously did it for him.

  30. DiscussionBeautiful

Seriously, with Boy Genius gone Spezza’s MLSE shelf life was months if hit weeks.
