Is Drew Doughty still a key player for the Kings?

We continue our offseason look at key members of the LA Kings with a focus on defenseman Drew Doughty. Is he still a key player for the Kings? Is he worth the money the Kings are paying him? Plus Kevin Fiala has joined Switzerland at the World Championship. Why are the Kings allowing him to play in that event coming off an injury? Weโ€™ll discuss on this edition of Locked on LA

  1. There definitely is a Stanley Cup penalty every team has to face when signing the guys that got them there. I would love Doughty at 8 mil a year but not if it meant that 2012 and 2014 didn't happen. The cup penalty is also why comparing Doughty to others is tough, how many cups did they win & how young were they? I am sure that no one for saw the cap being frozen for several years which compounds the Doughty problem. Love the show, Eddie.

  2. European players place higher importance on international tournaments than North America does.

  3. Online fantasy fans knowlege of the game is limited to how many points a player has. It gets frustrating trying to talk some sense into their tiny brains sometimes. ๐Ÿ˜‚

DD is coveted by almost all other fan bases but when it comes to Kings fans, they tend to think the grass is always greener in someone else's garden.

  4. Contract length, money, and cap space aside, i feel like if you asked every GM in the NHL if theyd take Doughty, most would say yes without hesitation.

  5. La kings team we cant beat the oilers they got connor McDavid and leon driesidle vegas knights say who gives a crap we can take them

  6. I like doughty but when he got that crazy contract he was way over paid and as gm if he didn't want to sighn for 8 million or less i would have traded his greedy ass so fast he would have been gone gone gone see u later and the assets u could have gotten for him just another bad move for blake tho big time ๐Ÿ‘Ž

  7. Doughty is still a very good defenseman but his contact is now and in the future is going to cripple the kings thanks blake

  8. Big kings fan here since the mid 80s but i don't expect the kings to win the cup next year or the year after because they have no goalie n no confidence no size no defense as of now n alot of players that they have been under performing r all probally going to start playing better when they r up for new contracts such as valardi and the kings may not have the money to sighn many of them i think the kings r a playoff team maybe but only for the first round but i do hope i am wrong and may still b a little salty after a quick first round exit by the oilers ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿ˜ก

  9. I like grundstrom an his griitty style and a couple of his snipe goals that he has gotten and i have been rooting for him ever since he joined the kings but i think he is not showing enough growth and it may b time to move on from him but maybe for cheap and the kings hands being tied with the money part of it all he may make a not to bad fourth line fill in but who knows its going to b a long off season but as always GKG ๐Ÿ˜ช

  10. Agreed with your opinion on daughty and his desire to beat the oilers and not side step them.
That's why I was not totally happy when the kings got Gretzky.
The oilers where a bunch of arrogant jerks led by Sather.
That us why the miracle on Manchester was by far my favorite game ever.
Seems like instead of trying to beat them (oilers) we kind of joined them and then pretty much became them by acquiring a ton of them to play with Gretzky on the kings.
The oilers have always been my most hated team and took great pleased In watching the duo with the fish hooks in their mouths get run out of the playoffs.
Keep up the good work and lose oilers lose.
    Frank rpv

  11. I never begrudge a player getting paid. It's the general manager that gives out contracts. That said, Doughty is not even close to a player he was when he was in his prime. I remember in 2010 winter Olympics when he held his own as a youngster on a loaded Canada team where they won gold. Of course, later, he helped Kings win 2 cups. The current contract hurts because it prevents kings from improving the team. Than again there are many teams around the league that are facing the same issues. I wish owners and general managers would learn to spread the wealth around instead of giving one or two players all the riches. After all, hockey is a team sport where the team wins at the end and not the individual.
