This article has a good discussion about how things are going for Wright down in the AHL currently and what kinds of questions there are going into the summer and next season, which are things I’ve been wondering about lately. Worth a read!

I’ve seen a lot of people speculate that Wright would be with the Kraken next season and I feel like this is pretty good indication that he will not be unless he comes back to camp and really impresses.

My buddy is an assistant GM for a team and recently scouted Shane. Here is his verbatim text to me… “I’d be surprised if he was ever a top 6 forward. He absolutely has improved but I’m not sure that the ceiling is low enough. I see a pure finisher who has far too many other parts of his game to improve on, just to hit a level that I would describe as ‘consistent’ “
So take that for what it is

I know after Matty there’s always been excitement over Shane, but I think I never really got it. Good article that I think is why I didn’t get it.
Obviously he’s good because he’s that far, but interesting to see it peeled back a bit more.

If the AHL/CHL discussion doesn’t go their way, I wonder if they could work out an agreement with a Swedish, Swiss, or Liiga team for a one-year loan. They aren’t developmental leagues, but they’re close enough to the AHL in terms of quality and offer grown, professional competition for Wright to play with and against.
Auston Matthews famously decided to sidestep North American developmental hockey in favor of the Zurich Lions of the Swiss League in his draft year.
