Drew Doughty on Wanting to Stay in LA

I honestly don’t see him leaving the team. He seems much happier now than he was last summer when the talk of him leaving heated up.

  1. The thing for me is, Dougherty said he and karlsson are both worth more than p.k. subban but in reality subban is the highest scoring defenseman in the highest scoring defense and I'm my eyes I think 12 mil is way too much for either of them. I know they both do more than subban but look who's dominating in the play offs and look who isn't. 10 mill at most.

  2. Doughty will almost certainly sign an 8-year $100M+ deal come July, now whether that is the right decision is debatable. You argue could that this will be a better team come October than it was on Opening Night of this season, because they got a few of the guys young guys some much needed ice time (Amadio, Brodzinski, Iafallo), added Rieder and Thompson along the way (bottom six upgrades for them). If Carter is healthy, Kempe takes a step forward and Vilardi has a solid rookie year, that would likely make up for the regression that seems likely by Brown & Kopitar. Or you could argue that they are better off moving him because the other top players will start to decline sooner than later.

  3. I could only see Drew wanting to go somewhere else if the Kings hadn't yet won a championship with him on the roster. He has his name on the cup twice. If the Kings had a poor season with the new coach, I could see the Kings trading Doughty away for a huge pool of prizes to rebuild for next season. The kings had a decent season, I don't think he's going anywhere.

  4. Doughty has been in LA for a long time and he's made a family there. All those players around him love doughty because he's competitive and always tries his best to be #1

  5. What if Doughty and Karlsson were in the same trade? Like Doughty to Ottawa and Karlsson to LA lol

  6. Hopefully Doughty will settle for no more than 10 Mill. Of the current Kings I think will be dealt, Toffoli is at the top of the list. He had a respectable year overall on the scoresheet but it just seems like the Kings need someone who plays a different style. Toffoli generally just sits in the slot and waits for a pass through a soft area. Kings need an agile puck handler on the wing that can create space and chances, especially on the rush. I expect Blake to deal Toffoli and a defenseman for a high end winger. Wayne Simmonds back to LA? Book it!

  7. Leave LA I doubt it. Too nice a city and good core. Needs a bit of retooling but they are a good team. Sutter did his bit but he had to go.

  8. It would be worth trading doughty. How many good years does he have left? Not many guys like him around but damn. You won your cups with him. Now what?

  9. Next season he is 29. I dont see him falling off a cliff but we never can tell. One guy taking up 10 million of cap really kills a teams depth. Sign him or get some great pieces back. The core is older. Kopitar is 31. Id say they have 5 good years left with these guys.

  10. Not easy being a gm. These assets are declining assets after a few good years and are one bad accident from being a shell of their former glory. Do a video on how hard it is to make the NHL. The actual odds of making it. I read that for ONtario kids born 1968 that played some kind of minor league hockey that the odds were .0025% that is just Ontario.

  11. He'll get a similar contract to Kopitar if he stays in LA. If he signs somewhere else as an UFA, he'll probably get offered more by a desperate GM who wants to entice him by over paying him. The kings aren't trading him unless they can rip someone off. It would probably take a combination of high end assets including a current star roster player. There is only a small handful of teams that can justify making such a pitch for Doughty, especially with no garantee he signs with that team. I think he'll test the market next year and probably sign back with LA for max term.

  12. My thoughts on this is that Karlsson is going to stick in Ottawa. His issues right now is with his son dying. As long as the Sens where classy with him on that I believe he will stay. I think that maybe the Sens could keep him. It's all on how they reacted to that news and how that news reached the media. If he doesn't want to stick around then I will not feel bad as a Sens fan. I might just start jumping onto bandwagons but I will not feel bad at all.

  13. The Knights make a big splash this July and sign Karlsson from Ottawa. Mark my words. Vegas wants a franchise face for the future.

  14. The kings need doughty you take that him out of the roster the kings won’t be the same
