At this point, any good GM who has won their club the Stanley Cup should be our next GM. And not sack Keefe in the process, mind you! I really do not understand why the Keefe haters are celebrating this and are calling for him to be sacked too, when it's him that got us out of Round 1 for once. This decision not to extend Kyle's contract was shameful, IMHO.

I do agree with your top two GM picks though. Good moves with either one of them. Wouldn't have thought of Darche, so I like that move.
To this move to fire Dubas: This was a colossally stupid, disloyal, and emotional decision by Shanahan. Over money and a press conference. A press conf. where Dubas was very much right to be upset. Shanahan should be fired for this decision. He hasn't even interviewed other candidates?! How do we sign Auston or Willy with no GM candidates this close to the deadline? This has fucked this team. Over a press conference.
Now Shanahan has given AM and Willy's agents a ton of leverage and NO reason to re-sign with us. The two best guys on here.

Will Shanahan even consider Tulsky or Darche though? In his press conference he explicitly said he wants an "experienced GM". Doesn't that put Tulsky and Darche out of the running?

If people liked yesterday's game between Panthers and Hurricanes then, GM needs to be changed in Toronto. Need a different perspective. New GM will determine if the core 4 will stay the way they are or bring in fresh players. Time will tell.
Toronto did the right thing to fire gm
Since 2014 when Dubas was hired the Leafs have missed the playoffs 3 times and only won 1 round in the playoffs for a team salary of 89 million. It was time and now they have to undo some of the mistakes that Dubas has made and the biggest of which was hiring Keefe as a coach. They will trade one of the big 4 to make the rest of the team stronger. Taveres will not go simply because he has a solid No Move Clause. Trading Nylander would not open up as much cap space as Trading either Marner or Mathews. Marner does it all. 5 on 5, Penalty killing, powerplay. He is a very effective player. Mathews is the one to me that might be traded but only to make a stronger D core. Leafs have 3 solid defensemen. Schenn, Reilly, McCabe. The rest showed very loose play in the playoffs. Keefe also has to be switched. He doesn't play the best players he plays favourites even if you don't play very well. Samsonov was out goaltended by Bobrovsky. We need a Bobrovski type goalie in net. Samsonov should not be traded because he will be as good as Bobrovsky in the future. Sammy is already very good.

Success is relative: under Dubas, the Leafs had the two highest season point totals since the franchise's inception.

What about Mike Gillis as a potential new GM? He's had Vancouver management breathing on his neck for his entire tenure and still managed to build a contender

Kyle is gone and his boys will follow him out the door just a matter of time " Holl , Keefe Kerfoot ". I donāt think Kyle Dubas being let go will impact Austonās desire to stay. That said I definitely think he wonāt extend if Mitch Marner is dealt. These guys have allegiance to each other first and the team and city second.
Mike Futa should be next GM – there is a leaf tattooed on him – And if the league rescinds the suspension then Joel Quennville should be coach and maybe bruce boudreau as his assistant unless bruce wants to run the coaching position on the marlies – spencer carberry will be hired somewhere else – let's get out of these contracts right away and trade matthews and marner before july 1 and nylander and lilgegren during the summer or during the year – Make tavares uncomfortable so he waves his no movement – don't have to rebuild just retool with different philosophy

Good analysis. Dubas saved Shanahan from himself. I wouldn't touch no trade clauses and max contracts with Matthews and Marner. I don't see how you can move one and then keep the other pissed off guy with a no trade clause calling his shots. Have to rio the band aid off and sell high. Matthews and Marner had their chance to lead a team together and blew it.
Toronto is a mess. Dubas let a lot of good depth guys go (McCann, Jarvis, Verhaeghe) with poor trades/rental pickups. Marner makes 2 million too much, Nylanders contract was alright, it cost him a lot of money to get Tavares to leave the island. They need at least two good defenseman and gotta get rid of Marners contract. Even Matthews I wouldn't want him either. Look at the Golden Knights roster, thats how you build a competitive team.
Calgary everything went wrong this year. They were the only team that scored more then they gave up that missed the playoffs
Dubas showed weakness and doubt during his presser. That, and not money nor anything else changed Shanny's mind. He also showed weakness in contract negotiations…and he unravelled during the playoffs, showing weakness in his lack of ability to control his emotions publicly. He's also made some brutal trades, like the Kadri and Marchment deals. Hopefully, the next guy has some sandpaper and some hockey acumen in terms of recognising talent and need as well as dealing with agents.
