Mitch I understand that the core has the belief, but the exorbitant amounts you guys are making while not accomplishing anything is the problem. If the deals could be restructured where you and JT took half of what you guys are getting payed now, we'd have enough money to go around to build a championship level team but we don't and that's the problem and the first things they are going to do when they change this team around is who is making their worth and unfortunately you haven't when you're asked to. Nylander shows up and has elevated himself and has a great contract. You had a few good years to start and now you have flatlined and haven't elevated. Matthews you can argue has but didn't do well because he is probably hurt and he is playing alongside you when you give up the puck on almost every play and you fail to make the necessary changes to your game in order to win. If and when this team changes Mitch you are the odd man out here

Too much money tied up in Tavares, Marner, and Matthews. Don't have the space for the kind of players they need on the bottom 6. And they clearly lack confidence in the playoffs, the lack of scoring in round 2 was not good

The signs were there after their ELC’s were out. They’re spoiled kids who just don’t have IT. But the more I think of trading Marner/Matthews, the more I think we’re screwed. We will likely get so much worse in a trade involving these guys so it’ll be doubtful we’re getting a deep playoff run in 2024. And if we stay pat with the core 4, we’re not winning the Cup. Lose-lose in the short run.
Do you really want to pay Matthews 15 million per season for 8 years? Marner will ask for 13.5-14 million since he is “Mr Selke”. Trade Matthew’s now and try to pick up young up and coming guys.
