KASPERI KAPANEN IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NHL AT THIS! WHATS NEXT FOR HIM & THE MAPLE LEAFS?

In this video, I go over how Kasperi Kapanen is one of the best players in the NHL at this one particular thing. I also use that as a stepping stone to talk about his development and what I want to see the organization do with him next

  1. Kappy is absolutely nuts, he's going to be a big part of the team for the next decade imo. His development was like fine wine, kids a rocket

  2. HELLO STEVEN HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY? HOPE ALL IS WELL BE HEALTHY STAY SAFE. OK I ,M NOT SO SURE I WOULD TRADE KAPPY HE IS A IMPORTANCE PIECE TO TORONTO PUZZLE, HE IS DYNAMIC HE IS A SHARPSHOOTER AND HE WORK,S AND FITS IN WELL WITH THE SWEDES NYLANDER JOHNSON IN TORONTO , WE WOULD HAVE TO BE , STEPS CLOSER TO TBE CUP BEFORE I EVEN THINK OF TRADING KAPPY SO MY ANSWER IS NO DON'T TRADE KAPPY . HAVE A GREAT EVENING Steven.

  3. Kappy needs a few more finishing moves. Most of his successful breakaways end in the little deke backhand shot. I love Kapanen, he's so fast. He plays on the PK in a way that distracts the PP, preventing them from going full offense. But, he needs either a better shot or a couple more dekes. I hope they don't have to trade him this offseason.

  4. He’s the best in league and not scoring in playoffs. Soft effort. Only got 1 goal each full playoff series

  5. Kapanen is the swiss army knife of the NHL. He's not a superstar but he's got skill. He's a 3rd line winger who can move up and play second or first if you need him. He could be a bottom two centre if you need him to be and he creates space and moves the puck while having some scoring ability. He gives you depth and he's got unreal speed.

  6. Come on guys….if ya watched the video do the guy a favour and subscribe to the channel….it's not hard to do. This guy had lots of energy and works real hard at digging up facts and numbers……unlike a lot of people with channels on here….so come on….HIT THAT LIKE BUTTON……You know ya wanna!!!!!!

  7. I like Kappy as well…hope we can keep him…..I think the takeaway from this video Steven is it sounds like you'd like to see him on one of the top 2 lines…..i know he is a RW but is there any kind of line combo where they could add him to the top six…..maybe have Hyman Matthews Marner on the first and move Nylander to the left with Tavares and Kappy on the right….he could Sonic his way into the zone and pass off to JT or We Willie to finish it off…..good video bud as usual!!!!

  8. Kapanen is a great player and I think if sheldon keefe wants to he could add him to a more skilled line to see his impact

  9. i like kappy he kind of reminds me of a draper or maltby , lots of speed skill and his defensive game seems to be developing , could develope into a good 2way hockey player especially if he keeps up the grittiness

  10. I love Kappy’s speed ,he is pretty clutch . I just wish his finish was better , I think his brain and hands can’t keep up with his speed. Hope he stays, I think he will be a good value. Like I said he has been clutch. Also I can’t blame Babcock for trying to get the team to be a little more defensive, I mean it is what the Leafs lack. Say what you want but he knows better and the first round exits prove it. They can’t outscore their short comings so maybe a little more defence would have helped. Dubas wants something that’s not going to work in today’s league, Babcock wanted a team that he has won with , experience is something Babs had , Dubas still needs to prove winning in the NHL and so far all he has done is a mediocre at best job and cap hell that he created by over paying

  11. Player roles expectations are not based on the isolated individual, while kappy or any other player brings the puck up the ice their opportunities are and should be team based based on the team focused mindset that the coach has in place.
While kappy does not convert on the breakaway at a high rate he has been clutch internationally and in the nhl and is slowly improving.
Babcock or any other coach should not disproportionately focus on his break away conversion but focus more on him within the team as he does indeed get almost a break away a game.
Babcock gave him lots of minutes and has improved.
Kappy is a sparkplug and has delivered clutch plays , I would rather see him on another team playing a larger role.

  12. Your wrong on Babcock and him wanting Dfense too many idiots think one Dman is the leafs answer to winning the cup it’s not, team dfense is the answer and that’s what Babs tried to instill. This team has lost countless times and a few playoff series because of it. The other team will eventually bully your scorers in the playoffs and when they do u need team structure and toughness. Saying focus on what your good at is foolish you need to be good at all the aspects of the game not focus on one and the team that’s best at all the aspects, wins the cup!!!

  13. Im exited for Kappy he's from same town as I am and he's one of my favorite players on the Leafs, I hope that he Will put same point overalls as he's father in the future(like 60 points)

  14. Kappy almost needs to play with Hyman and Matthews. Kappy breaks into the zone. Gets it deep for Hyman, Hyman hold it down low while defence set up at blue line. Team moves the puck around for Matthews to burry.

  15. I would have guessed missing on breakaways was what he is best at in the league

  16. Started following you few weeks back. Great content. I should do some vids on past Leafs, some vintage stuff and continue with your awesome stats work

  17. That Babcock impersonation made me laugh, sooo true, I think the reason Kadri developed so much under Babcock was because he WAS fit for the style Babcock was trying to make EVeRyONe play. When you look back at the dynasty that was the Detroit red wings , you see a lot of the same style players, Zetterberg, Datsyuk,Holmstrom, they’re all guys who were made to play a solid two way game. Just as Kadri was fit for, so having a bunch of those style players Babcocks style worked, coming to a team like Toronto who had one guy who could play that system and then trading him for another offensive guy, the writing was on the wall at that point.fortunately I still remember Gretzky playing hockey so I remember a lot of those moments, same with the dynasty before that where the Red wings and The Avs had such heated rivalry’s I remember taping these Stanley cup games on my VHS player.

  18. Hear me out on this one.. this is pretty interesting imo. And why I think Johnson got a 4 year deal and Dubas was maybe more hesitant to give one to Kapanen and it all has to do with Zachary Hyman.

After Next Season Hyman will be gone, there’s no Ifs ands or buts bar Toronto trading one of the big 3 they will not be able to afford Hyman on a flat cap with what he will be producing 30+ goals. Right now Toronto WANTS to give Kapanen the 3rd like role not a whole lot of minutes, to keep his production down, to make his next contract more manageable Kapanens contract runs out a year after Hyman which means they’ll start negotiating after this season likely, meaning if he’s been playing third line minutes he will have low numbers making him a very good candidate to sign to a long term contract to replace Zachary Hyman on the first line or 2nd line, I personally think Dubas is many years ahead in these contracts that he’s signing and there’s a reason he only gave Kapanen a 3 year , it will force him to the table before the team has to give him top 6 minutes. veRy SMaRt,

Say Kapanen stays 3rd like minutes, goes on the PK , no PP time the guy produces 20 or less goals this year MAYBe 40 points. He’s only going to be leveraging a small raise at that point to maybe 4-4.25 then they have a replacement for Zack Hyman for 4.25M for another 4-5 years if they signed him to a 4 year deal the team would have had to give him top 6 minutes after Hyman left raising his stake, I personally believe dubas has Kapanen in his long term plans I don’t expect to see him going Anywhere like people believe I think Nylander would go before Kapanen

  19. I almost forgot…let's test how smart you are compared to Babcock…..is you answered yes to playing Jason Spezza in the home game against his old Sens team instead of sitting him out…..you probly smarter than ole Babs…lol

  20. kappy is an elite penalty killer so he should be doing lots of that. Unfortunately his hands are not the greatest so I see him staying on the third line wing and he can move up and down in the lineup accordingly. Love his work ethic!
