3 players the Islanders could trade from prospect pool

We’re all talking about trades and who to bring in right now. What if we flipped the script a little. Who are three (not so obvious) players I think the Islanders could move right now?

  1. Appreciate you, Mich. Just a couple comments:

Ish has almost no value in a trade. This is the sad truth. He's not elite enough to overcome the size issues and most teams aren't going to give him much of a shake. The big problem for him, also, is how his production tanks on NA ice surfaces.
You're absolutely correct on Koivula. You move him if anyone is interested because it's likely he's not an NHL player and there's no room for him right now. Good take!
Wortherspoon is an interesting one. He might get some interest.

  2. Every organization has similar talent like these three. However an AHL team looking for a playoff run may trade for an experienced center like Otto or D like Parker.

  3. Fair comments, Mitch. I wonder if Koivula will be there to help Raty transition. I'd be okay with Raty, Koivula and Holmstrom playing together next year in Bridgeport and see if any of them are ready to take that next step. If Koivula could add another step to his skating, I'd keep him in a bottom 6 role.
Thanks for the content, as always, Mitch.
Sorry, we're sending more snow your way.
    Your SW Ontario "neighbour" 🙂

  4. Agree with all of your points… but in my world I "re-imagine the Isles as a team that evolves into some of that talent. Especially Koivula, who I am very high on. I've always been a proponent of being able to score from all 4 lines and all 3 defensive pairs. They will have a big opportunity to regress in team age and upgrade team talent this year. Parise has been very good, but why aren't Parise and Koivula competing for Matt Martin's TOI…. soon to be Cal Clutterbuck's TOI.
Spoon is NHL ready now… probably more than Salo was, even though Robin has a higher upside. Same thing with MVS.
Iskahkov is just gonna have to work harder to get in the light. Once he does he could carve out a nice NHL career. I hope it's with the #Isles. It's noce to have muscle in reserve, but if you can have some more offensive talent that is waiver exempt then you have the building blocks for long term cup contention. Competition is always good.

  5. Koivula could be a replacement for Matt Martin. But martins contract runs for another 2 seasons and Johnston could be his successor too and he’s here until 2026. Koivula is a RFA after this season.

  6. Will you make a vid about the prospects of the 2022 nhl draft, it looks like we will have a high pick this year. I love Brad Lambert, whose uncle is an assistant for the Isles.
