  1. Not sure why Carolina got lumped into the “up in the air”. Front office and coaching is all set.
They really just have the freedom to make the changes they need to in terms of roster. Staal will take a cheaper deal and they will decide who’s staying long term.

I’d expect Carolina to be top of the list if one of the core 4 is moved. Rod with Marner would be pure magic. Plus canes need to make a decision on Scott Morrow, trade out a top 4 d man or trade his rights.

  2. As a Blues fan, why do we need to dump Binnington? He won us a Stanley Cup and the defense has been trash in front of him.

  3. The next Matthews contract will not be 5 years. Matthews and his agent know the cap will take a significant jump in the coming 3 years. He will sign a 3 year contract max and then resign for a huge increase then. He will want a minimum of $14M next contact and then closer to $20M after that. A very expensive contract for a guy who completely disappears in the playoffs.

  4. Is it worth getting less in a trade or the chance at getting nothing in a trade to play this game at this time for this kind of money with a player who is too predictable and soft to be a great playoff player? Sell high or hope in three years the cap grows and these guy's competitive balls drop.

  5. In the context of Dubas bringing players from the Leafs, I like how the "prize ponies" are Kerfoot, Holl, etc. Basically the players the Leafs want to get rid of for money/ability reasons. Definitely not the pieces that would actually cause the Leafs any amount of anxiety or trouble, no, definitely not them. 😂

  6. .so..Mathews who has established that he and his girlfriend Marner are useless in the post-season….wants 15 mil….so….13 to Mitch……28 ml. to proven losers…stupidity personified…..locked in losing…

  7. Steve's Dubas couldn't put a team together to play in the playoffs. Dubas ruined our chance to win a cup. Dubas' approach took us nowhere but just total failure when it comes to playoffs. Mathews' reaction is all that you are going to get from him. Blow the team out and get first-round picks. Look at Vegas, they are doing amazingly great and the average players can do a much better job than our so-called Superstars. Steve could follow the steps of Jason Spezza.

  8. I'd love him to be traded so I can finally support a team that actually might do well in the playoffs

  9. my take is that if Matthews and also other players on this core four is committed to winning he or they should come out an say" i want to commit to winning the cup with this team and i will "die" trying and sign extension without hesitation to a team that has given him or them millions dollars. otherwise for sure its all about the money and that is a shame and then best be marry on your way.

  10. I'm hoping he doesnt sign at this point. I'm sick of hearing about it. he does t want to be there. it clearly showed in the playoffs

  11. Bad take on the Penguins needing to trade one of the big 3. Crosby, Malkin and Letang are not the problem, they all are playing at or above their current cap hits. It's all the other old/bad contracts on the team that are handcuffing them.
