Mighty Ducks of Anaheim film on their first Stanley Cup Finals run in the 2002-2003 season. Mighty Ducks would fall short in 7 games to the New Jersey Devils.

I understand you want to get away from the Disney image, but God, those jerseys are sick! Purple and teal just looks so good, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Charlotte Hornets fan.
I like the old colors for home game, white color jersey and full color for away game. also you can notice after 9/11 the NYPD security is tight on the team bus. plus such a nice doco about a failed run, but cannot find NJD video on their win run !
These ducks jerseys were so sick. Wish they'd go back to these or AT LEAST wear them as a throwback. I guess getting the crest on their new alternate is a start.
When Rusty Salei was talking, I honestly did get a little emotional. Hope he and the rest of his Yaroslavl teammates are playing their best game ever in the best place ever. RIP Rusty and the rest of Yaroslavl Lokomotiv 2011.
9-7-11 is one of the darkest days for hockey fans everywhere, and I will never forget the great things those players did for the fans of the game, especially those who I grew up watching in their NHL time. The will never be forgotten by me.
Honestly, I love my Wild. I had no idea they made the Conference Final in 2003 until years back. My dad had playoff seats to the first 2 games at the X. And ever since the Conference Final, my dad and my brother have hatred toward the Ducks. I find this to be an incredible video about an underdog team making the Final for the first time in their history with such a deep core and a great goaltender in J.S. Giguere. Shame that they lost to the hands of the Devils, but their run impresses me to this day. Especially, the Wild Card 2 Nashville that made the Finals last season. Someday, I will wait for the day my Wild will take it all. Don't know how long that will be, but it will be savoring and amazing once they do.

I was at game 3 of the Detroit series about 10 rows up at center ice. I remember seeing Yzerman skating between whistles with a look of disbelief on his face. I was a huge fan of the Red Wings at the time but by game seven versus the Devils I had become a bonafide fan of the Anaheim Ducks. Such a great run for that team even though they ultimately lost.
I had no idea this movie existed. I had the championship videos from 95-12, plus others like greatest goals, men behind the mask, gretzky box set, and a few others I can't remember. How did I miss it?
What amazes me is that I see some people who say that Brodeur deserved the Conn Smythe over Giguere. Not to take away from how good Brodeur was in those playoffs, but I don't see any way to justify giving it to him over the run Jiggy had that year
The 2003 Stanley Cup tournament is one of the very most remembered in NHL history! You just can't make a better Cinderella story in the NHL then this.
For 3 years straight, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks had missed the playoffs and during franchise history (who also this season celebrated there 10th anniversary), the Mighty Ducks had only qualified to the playoffs 3 times (1996, 1997 & 1999).
But here comes the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, in there 10th anniversary season in NHL with an untested coach on top level in Mike Babcock and a team with 2 untested goalies, only 1 franchise star in Paul Karya and overall on the paper, a very mix of players with more or less humble merits compared to what many NHL rivals was loaded with at the time. They manage to acquire Petr Sykora and two old veteran talents with-out any rings; Steve Thomas and Adam Oates for this season.
They entered the playoffs with a 7th place in Western Conference and are up against the toughest opponent possible, the defending Stanley Cup champions and winner favorites Detroit Red Wings. Steve Yzerman, Sergei Fedorov, Nicklas Lidstrom, Brett Hull, Curtis Joseph, Brendan Shanahan, Chris Chelios, Luc Robitaille, Igor Larionov and the upcomings of Pavel Datsuk & Henrik Zetterberg = A solid heavy juggernaut of a team. BUT against the odds, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks shocks the hockey world by not only win the series – but sweeping the big favorites Red Wings in a 4-0 series!!!
To this date, I still feel breathless of the thing and of its possible biggest upset happening in NHL history!
Then in the quarterfinals facing the Western Conference series winners, the Dallas Stars, and again, the now dubbed "Cinderella team" was again believed to be knocked-out by the second favorite winners. Impossible to do another upset, right? That is what the majority of all hockey fans thought. BUT again against the odds, the Mighty Ducks wins the series, now with a 4-2 series to again shock the hockey world by advancing to the semi-finals. For the franchise's first time ever they have made it to the Western Conference finals, now facing off against another suprising runner in the play-offs with the Minnesota Wilds. The Mighty Ducks again makes an impressive sweep and wins a 4-0 series and the "Cinderella team" run is fulfilled. The Anaheim Mighty Ducks are going for the first time ever to the Stanley Cup finals!
After 10 years in the NHL, they have managed to reach the finals after so many failed seasons behind them and so many disappointments.
The opponents are not just any team of the time but against the tuff & rough New Jersey Devils, a team that had made it to the Stanley Cup finals in both in 2000 & 2001 and managed to place themselves in top position every seasons since late 90's.
The Cinderella team Mighty Ducks fought hard against the Devils and managed to push the series to an exciting 3-3 series. But sadly, the CInderella run did not end with a championship as the heavy play-off experienced Devils mustered up extra strength and finished it all in the 7th and final game with a 4-1 victory!
Never the less, Jean-Sebastian Giguare was a true hero on the ice and made it all possible with his hunger to win at all costs. The Stanley Cup tournaments most valuable player on the ice and his efforts was almost legendary. He became the first player ever from a "losing" team to receive the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP (Most Valuable Player).
And to add some extra touch of sweetness, in the 2003 NHL entry Draft afterwards that summer, the Mighty DUcks managed to draft two future franchise stars that would prove to become future key-players – Ryan Getzlaf (19th overall) and Corey Perry (28th overall).
Watched every single game of this playoff run except for game 7 against Jersey. This was what made me a Ducks fan for life. If we had Teemu that year, we could have stolen a game in New Jersey and won that series. I will believe that forever.

Giguere is the only reason for this amazing run. Without him, the Ducks fall to the Stars no question.
I finally found a DVD copy of this on Ebay, but it was really rare. Luckily it was brand new still in it's shrink wrap!

Seeing how good they were then makes me sad seeing how bad they are in 2022 but ducks always fly together
