On May 26th in 2000, New Jersey Devils defenseman Scott Stevens decimated the oft-injured Philadelphia Flyers forward Eric Lindros with an open ice hit midway through the first period of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The hit represents Lindros’ final on-ice moment as a member of the Flyers as he was kept from skating for six months, missed the entire 2001 season, and was ultimately traded to the New York Rangers.

New Jersey beat Philadelphia 2-1 and went on to defeat the defending Cup champion Dallas Stars 4-2 in the Finals, hoisting their first Stanley Cup in 5 years. Stevens took the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

  1. Scott Stevens is the greatest and most vicious defender in NHL history. To all you clowns complaining, it was a different era and he wasn’t the only one doing it

  2. Scott Stevens was one of the dirtiest players in the NHL! He always hit players when they weren't looking, or unable to defend or brace for the hit! Absolutely disgusting! He should have been suspended for that hit! He did the same thing to Paul Kariya!

  3. That was the start of the wieners in the nhl – hey mariner and Mathew only way your a good hockey player because there is no hitting aloud anymore lol

  4. Lindros was another guy that made it because of money lol Theron flurry half is size push lindros around lol

  5. I really think this was the Flyers’ year if they didn’t shit the bed against the devils in the conference finals. Still a painful memory to this day.

  6. well maybe Eric should have some morals and not get with other players wives eh! Stevens just gave him exactly what he deserved and it was great to watch! Lindros loved being the bully but Stevens knocked him the f out and that was the end of Mr. Bully! lol

  7. -I got on to our bench and our assistant coach said "My God, you can't do that."
And I said, "nah, it's okay for him."

    That's a Marty McSorley quote 👆
But I would imagine a similar conversation happened when Stevens came back to his bench here. Stevens hated Lindros and I'm sure he loved taking him out 😄

  8. The NHL took too long to outlaw the dirty shoulder to the head hits. Too many careers were ended by these dirty af hits.

  9. Ended his Flyer career and basically his NHL career. Couldnt have happened to a more deserving guy. Karma is real. Im sure Rod bought Scotty a beer after he cheated with his wife on him. Clown.

  10. Stevens and guys like Claude Lemieux would be eternally suspended it today's NHL. They were great players but they constantly crossed the line. Their main goal was to injury the opposition.

  11. That hit is why lindros has such bad brain damage, Had he not been wearing a helmet he would've likely died when his head hit the ice.

  12. Eric still didn’t learn his lesson as he was rocked by Jason Doig several years later as a Ranger
