This Day In Hockey History: Montreal Canadiens Legends And Fans Say Goodbye To The Forum



March 11th, 1996: The Canadiens close the Montreal Forum in style by defeating the Dallas Stars 4-1. The game is followed by a ceremony that sees each former Montreal captain pass a torch to the next in line, ending with a handoff to Pierre Turgeon. The loudest cheers are for Maurice Richard, who receives an ovation that lasts nearly 10 minutes.

  5. From what I heard, Maurice was exceptionally humble about his fame, and always thought of himself as "just a hockey player." I like that you can see he's slowly realising just HOW importanmt he was and finally accepts the praise.
