Well yea, Shanny admitted that hearing him during that presser changed everything and that’s basically what got him fired.

No regrets though, get paid Dubas

His mistake was giving the slightest hint that his commitment to the Leafs was in question. This team doesn’t have time for anything less than 110% all in.

Huge difference between the two introductions of Treliving and Dubas – Treliving at the very start sent a heartfelt thanks to the city of Calgary, the team, and their fans.

Dubas on the other hand – nothing. No class. Incredibly immature. Zero acknowledgment for Shanahan handing a rookie GM the keys to the largest hockey club in the world. Zero acknowledgment to the organization, itā€™s people, itā€™s players. Without the Leafs – he would NEVER be getting a presidents position in an NHL team this quickly. It just came off as very ungrateful.

This is the same guy who told everyone he didnā€™t know if his family could handle the jobā€¦. Then less than 3 weeks later heā€™s relocating them to a new city and taking on an even larger jobā€¦.

Weā€™ve learned a lot about Dubas in the last few months.

  4. I don’t think it was the honesty, it was most likely in combination with the contract counter offer after having one in place

None of us know exactly what happened with Dubas leaving Toronto or what his motivations were. I don’t want to speculate on that.

I was definitely sad when he left. Gutted even. Had a ton of faith in him to improve the Leafs. But I’ll admit I’ve leveled out on that now. Treliving seems to be a reasonable person and by all accounts is a smart GM with flaws, like they all are.

Thanks Dubas for getting the Leafs to where they are. He was a great stepping stone GM and we will never know if he was destined to be THE guy here. Sometimes that happens. But that page is pretty much turned for me now.

Lmfao. Too honest Kyle? Cmon. Its pretty dam clear now your attention to leverage the team for more
    $$$/ GM Power

  7. zainery

Truth is he lost his job cus he wanted more power thus making Shanny redundant

  8. Kyle says Red Sox president called him after Leafs eliminated. Kyle gets Leafsā€™ offer. Kyle then says heā€™s not sure he wants this job(GM of Leafs) and pressure is so hard on family. Kyle than counters with full control and more money. Shanny says goodbye. Kyle takes exact job with Penguins.

Sounds like tampering AND negotiating through the media to me.

Couldnā€™t help but notice the stark contrast with Brad Treliving starting off by thanking Calgary, going name by name demonstrating his appreciation for the experience and relationships fostered.

And then there was Kyle Dubas that had nothing to say about the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brendan Shanahan after giving him his first NHL opportunity as Assistant GM at 28 years old, making him GM and giving him access to every resource he could ever imagine.

A difference in sincerity and class. At least Kyle got the money and power he so badly craved.

There is absolutely no scenario where he didnā€™t consider being promoted elsewhere, and Iā€™m sure he knew it would be Pitt. Hence presenting Shanny with a ā€œnew financial packageā€ He was never staying unless he was guaranteed a promotion.

  11. Allyougame

Nah, you tried to leverage a power play for yourself and it didn’t work. Fuck off.

  12. mchev57

This guy is so full of shit his eyes are brown

  13. howsshegoin

the conversations that dubas raised surrounding the mental health and work-life balance of GMs are *sooo* important.

if anything, he was nowhere near honest enough. as fans, we absolutely failed The Dubas Family.

  14. dirtybird131

Like when you said you wouldnā€™t be popping up anywhere, itā€™s either Toronto or nowhere?

  15. Rance_Mulliniks

    Honest?

Yeah, that word certainly doesn’t seem to fit here. Maybe add a “dis” in front of it.

  16. irishcedar

My biggest weakness is that I work too hard and I love too much.

  17. Arch3r86

Immature, corporate snake. Honesty has quite literally nothing to do with his power play. What a snake. Good riddance bud.

  18. Hadokuv

Dude had this Pens offer in his back pocket and tried to leverage it to get the POHO job at MLSE and was told to fuck off. I was mostly indifferent on him leaving but now I firmly in the he was never that good to begin with camp. Too bad the leafs wasted the prime years of this core on giving him on the job training and he fucked it up.

  19. Icy_Imagination7344

I think he knew exactly what he was doing by being too honestā€¦.calculated decision to get out of town without looking like he quit the team

  20. BORT_licenceplate27

Dubas saying something in a presser that haunts him long after is a perfect way to end his tenure as a leaf. I feel like his entire time here, some of his quotes have been biting him in the ass.

  21. Survious

I think that him and Shanny got into it, that made him question wanting to stay with the Leafs…I saw a man deflated up there.

I expect we will see great things in Pittsburgh from him and at least 1 of the core 4 may sign for the Pens.

In either case TO is a mess atm…there is more going on than we know.

  22. EntryDiligent6908

Doesnā€™t seem like he was honest at all tbh.

  23. BuffytheBison

Looks like Kyper was right all along (and got some flack for it). The whole “If I don’t stay with Toronto you’re not gonna see me elsewhere.” He plays the “aw shucks” routine pretty well (just like Masai Uijiri) but he’s a cold-blooded killer just liike him lol

  24. terminese

He probably had the Pitt job in his back pocket, he thought MLSE desperately wanted him back, he played the Iā€™m unsure card to let them know that he could take it or leave it, and hen he upped his demands hoping that they would cave in. In the end he got the boot, heā€™s a smart guy but he overplayed his hand.

  25. RefrigeratorLeft4679

Letā€™s face it, Dubas is not honest, heā€™s a schemer. If you believe anything he says the joke is on you

  26. SouthernOshawaMan

Then comes back with a different contract was the problem .
