  1. NJ is not going to give up a player like Mercer for Saros. When they were negotiating the deal for Timo Meier, Tom Fitzgerald made it clear that Dawson Mercer was off the table for who SJ could ask for. The more realistic possibility would be to trade the rights to a pending RFA and a prospect IF they wanted to take on another 5-6 million dollar cap hit. Goaltending in NJ this season was good enough to get them a franchise record number of wins and Vanacek became the only other goalie in NJ other than Brodeur to win 30+ games in a season. Akira Schmid took a huge step forward and may have even proven that he is ready to be the 1A goalie. So while trying to acquire Saros is an interesting thought, I can't see it being any top priority and it would require a fleecing by Fitzgerald to bother making it happen.
