  1. I think they don't trade him, he signs for 13.2 million/5 years and it's deemed a "pay cut" and he regresses statistically in year one of his new contract

  2. In the law of averages and large numbers, Auston Matthews has reached his full potential This is what he is – an excellent regular season club player. What he is not is a playoff game-changer and never will be. Feelings a and caring do not win your team a Stanley Cup. The Leafs are in deep deep trouble for a number of years to come unless they stop repeating the same mistakes year after year expecting a different outcome. The new GM is certainly not the answer. He is fuel on the fire. Confusion reigns once again.

  3. I think he'd be crazy to sign away his prime to go through all the craziness of being a Leaf. He'd have 20 teams lining up to give him just as much money, so it's not about that. Go somehwere comfortable and finish your career out actually having fun Auston!

  4. FFS can't we have this month of entire year? F the leafs. playoffs still on. crap non stop videos about that.

  5. You just cant replace a guaranteed 40-60 goal scorer. He needs to be signed. He needs to be utilized properly, and have the right players around him for success. Marner should be the guy traded. Hes small, and its proven when you put enough pressure on this guy he folds quite easily. Way overpaid for a winger.

  6. Tkachuk isn't in the same boat. He wanted to sign long-term in Calgary prior to the 19-20 season, but Treliving didn't want to give him the money due to wanting to prioritize Michael Frolik. So he chose to give him a bridge deal.

  7. You stop the core 4 you stop the leafs because no one could score after them they hog all the money

  8. I wish people would stfu saying the cap is going up , that's what got the leafs in trouble in the first place , there are no guarantees it is going up substantial

  9. Tkachuk did not want the 3 year deal. Treliving wanted the 3 year deal…and Tkachuk got screwed for 3 years. It was good reason why Tkachuk left to play elsewhere, with Treliving still holding the bag…and it's not like he got top dollar in Florida.

  10. Matthews is the guy to get you to the playoffs and that's it. He's shown that he is useless in the playoffs.

  11. How does this clown know Auston is going in these negotiations wanting as much money as he can get. Little quick to start trashing him already.

  12. I seriously hope Matthews considers how much of the cap hes taking up. The gold standard of his signing should be the same cap percentage Stamkos has. I hope he realizes now that the gm wont be able to build a good team around him if hes taking up a majority of the cap. Like dude you signed an 80 mil contract with the Leafs. Why on earth would you need more money especially with your endorsements?

  13. So what? I understand and agree with that, Matthews was a no show in the playoffs again, and it seems he`s always asking more than he`s giving.
So trade him? Where? Who fits a 11,6m contract?
Everyone is UFA for the Leafs in the next 2 years. Matthews and Nylander in June 24, Tavares and Marner in June 25.
    Bunting, Kerfood already this year.
Big decisions have to be made for the Leafs, and it might be a big change, might even lead to a rebuild if 2 out of their 4 top forwards are gone.
