They’re basically trying to change the rule the Canucks violated last month when players asked to train with the Sedins and were fined 50k for it.

Curious to see the PA feedback here and how teams operate it. It’s a matter of time before it probably goes back to the way it was.
Once you allow grey in black and white rules then you’re bound to run into violations but you maybe can’t do anything about it as long as the grey is there. Teams saying “hey it would be a great idea if you voluntarily worked out with our coach all summer. Would be really great for your odds to make the roster/contract negotiation/etc. A real shame you’re going back home for the summer out of our supervision”
Players aren’t going to really turn it down because of that Be A Team Player pressure, especially the lower on the roster they are.
The NFL used to abuse “voluntary” workouts to the point they were open about them being non-voluntary. Had to change the last CBA to make it black and white.
Another area of concern is contract insurance and team medicals. Guy gets the clear on his end of season medical. Now he gets hurt in the off season. Can you prove he didn’t get hurt working the voluntary workout with your skill coach?
I think this is a good idea in a pure sense but I just see it being abused and withdrawn.

Man it’s such bullshit the Canucks always get punished for this kinda shit then the rules get changed right after and other teams get no penalty for the same things.
Luongo contract being the most prominent example.
They just need one sedin quite literally on-ice and the other sedin on the bench or in the stands or just anywhere behind the boards and the league will tremble
