Oilers have a long history, of forcing their 1st round pick into the lineup and expecting those kids to lead the team without any supporting players. (Gagner, Eberle, Hall, Yakupov, Paajarvi, Puljujarvi, Nuge) .
The only real exception has been McDavid and we’re still trying to build a solid foundation around him.

The Oilers have their second round pick this year, but it's not looking very good unless they can trade a couple guys like Ceci, Yamo, Foegele, or any of their expendable prospects for draft picks. And if other teams are willing to part with their picks for those prospects.

Tippet and mclelland are totally opposite personalities to JP, I'd say they probably hated the guy.
But he's also super passive on the ice and doesn't know how to find a notch higher than just floating around like a heron looking for fish!
