Yeah don’t agree with this one and I doubt the reasoning that his expiring contract would’ve really held up this process

  2. distinctkickinmotion

Any teams accepting new fans? Asking for a friend…

  3. ddottay

I’m hoping Dreger’s sources are wrong.

  4. iggyisgoat

Love to be a fly in the wall in Johnny Gaudreau’s house. From Sutter to Babcock lol

  5. willingplankton

Welp. Guess I’m out of here soon, then. God, how disappointing.

    Fire jarmo

Us moving in a direction of getting more creative, skilled players and hiring Mike Babcock is such a joke

The only thing that could be worse is if it was Q. I am not too sure what to feel about this…if the players had input then they only have themselves to blame, but that’s something we will never know the truth about honestly

  8. ChiefMythic

I’m. New fan of the sport and team. Why is this news nit received well?

  9. descartes127

Somehow they pick an even worse option than I thought possible.

This seems like a rough choice. But maybe there’s a silver lining, perhaps his blacklisting and time off chilled him out some and he will have learned from his mistakes? Maybe Jarmo has the stern demeanor that can keep Babcock on a short leash? Idk, I definitely hate this choice but who knows, the future holds many mysteries

I need to take 2 showers today after reading this.

I’m curious to see how he does. Obviously the stories around him are quite disturbing, but there is potential that he has changed and it could work out. People hated torts prior to his trip to Columbus.

I’m not saying I love the move based on his history, but he deserves a second chance more than a Joel quinville.

If thats the case im out. I wont be consuming CBJ while hes coach.

  14. JunesDepartmentStore

Spent the last 3 years trying to move on from the system Torts built and in the end hired a version of Torts on steroids.

Hope that it is just speculation as Dreger is supposing

  15. Dkoop2003

IDK this is from people outside of the organization, and the Jackets are notably quite tight lipped. I’ll believe this one when I see it

  16. Man_Bear_Pig08

This would be what it takes to make me want Jarmo gone.

  17. Hazy_eyePA

Well Jarmo, this very well could be that last coaching hire of your career as a general manager in the national hockey league.

Good luck and may god help us all if this happens.

  18. coyscbj

Not excited about this one, but I guess I’m willing to hear him out. He’s a good hockey coach – just hope he’s changed. Our team is really young and has a lot of growth still needed

  19. IAmCastetter

Ya hope for a Tortorella type of rehabilitation for the guy while here….. but man that’s rough

  20. Accomplished_Hat_264

larsen hire was already bad in my books when it happened, this seems also bad. Jarmo being lil weird lately…

  21. thecbjfan

Torts got a second chance after the Calgary Vancouver scuffle. I think Babcock needs a second chance. He is a Stanley cup champion too

  22. steveslikewhoa

If his contract expires at the end of this month, why would it make a difference if we hired him next week or last week?

  23. DerDutchman1350

I hope someone asks the question. “Have you directly apologized to the people you treated like trash?”

  24. MauriceMaxwell

I posted this on hockey Reddit too, people are overreacting with their outrage on this. He may be an asshole but let’s not act like he’s a Quineville. He’s a good coach and this is actually probably a good move.

  25. Gathrin

I might have to dip out if this is the case. Sad really.

  26. HootzHootzBoy

There’s just no way after all this, with what the team is, with the state Elvis has been past 2 seasons. There’s no way they go with someone that has repeating history with abusing his own players. Especially when Jarmo has made it clear he is sick with the talk how nobody wants to play in Columbus. This would be really stupid hire. Now ofcourse maybe he has learned that he shouldn’t do that and maybe he is a great person now but it would make no sense to take that risk

  27. Professional-Roll513

I’m starting to lose trust in Jarmo. This will be a colossal fucking failure of a hire.

  28. Mangosaremybae

Not a huge fan if this turns out to be true. Would have hoped for Roy or Vincent with all of our young players. At least he is a safe hire in terms of pure coaching. I don’t think Babcock would have been hired if the front office people thought he was going to pull his old bs again.

  29. Browns45750

Im done if true. The browns might be a better ran team than the jackets let that sink in

  30. cleveland-ohio

None of you guys ever played hockey and it shows. Just because there was a problem in Toronto with him being too aggressive towards young guys doesn’t mean he’s a piece of shit and a terrible hockey coach lmao. I promise I’m not a troll, I’m serious. Hockey coaches are hard asses. Worse than football. I don’t know if this is a good hire or not, no one does, but you guys all act like you can tell the future and that he’s going to cause our players to become depressed and leave Columbus or something. It’s honestly hilarious the extreme speculation going on here. Everyone reads some headlines and they know the guy like he’s family 🙄
