This off-season gonna be interesting, but makes running it back much more plausible considering this indicates likely a 7-8 mil bump after next season.
Just in time for those extensions to kick in
Just in time for the bidding war of 2024.
Works out pretty nicely for the Leafs. Even with only a $1M increase, they have a decent amount of space this summer to make moves. Then, next summer’s large bump can cover Matthews and Willys extensions.
Oh Matthews and Nylander are getting extensions for sure!
This is great news assuming Matthews and Nylander sign for good contracts and don’t bend us over again. We shouldn’t operate on an assumption that the cap will be ~$90M next season. Don’t need to look too far back to 2020 to understand how complicated that would make things.
Matthews: Fuck you pay me
Imagine another pandemic hits and the cap stays flat after they sign Matthews and Willy to super rich deals. Imagine.
Fuck Buttman
The NHLPA has gotta be the most toothless union
Other major leagues are able to get large jumps in contracts tied to revenue, namely TV deals, but when the NHL gets two large US deals the cap barely moves up
