Today I wanted to talk about some of the players on the Detroit Red Wings, and possible trade scenarios for them. We’ll be focusing today on Andreas Athanasiou, Jonathan Bernier, and Dennis Cholowski.

Honestly, I watch a lot of hockey and Bernier has been one of the best goaltenders in the entire league this year. The Wings defense other than Hronek, is not good…
We have Green but he is not a top 2 guy anymore. Daley is horrible…Our defense is just horrible right now lol.
Bernier has easily been the most consistant player on this team.
AA, Cholow, 2nd (Was) or (Det) // Byram

Why trade when a players value is DOWN?
I Think moving Athanasiou and Cholowski in a deal for a 1st rounder is doable..Athanasiou alone I dont believe will fetch that..Neither was a Yzerman draft pick ..My concern with Athanasiou is his plus minus is subpar.. Dont get rid of Bernier unless Larson is ready within the next year..Just need help from the Hockey Gods to secure Lafreniere this year

Because Athanasiou is an RFA, he’s definitely worth a 1st and a second. If Yzerman can’t get that, then simply resign him. He won’t be overly expensive. You can always trade him later, when his value is higher (i.e. not in a season where he, and the team as a whole, is plagued with injuries, and literally everyone’s production is down. lol)
As a wings fan, I’d trade AA to Edmonton for Puljujärvi and a 2nd round pick. Bernier to Vegas for late 1st round pick. Keep Cholowski
Stevie Yzerman is much too smart to trade AA as he knows what Andrea brings to the game is special. Only a fool with blinders on watches his special dimension and stupidly fluffs it off !AA has even not reached his full potential yet… trading this away after investing the time and effort to develop AA is insane .His upside is and should be part of the Red Wing 's promising future .
Cholowski is a total draft bust , he has not been good at any point this season or last when it comes to his position DEFENSE !

This gets me, AA has 10g 14a 24pts for 741TOI. That's virtually 1 point per 30 TOI. Possibly Fabbri might be better, but that's the same number all the top players have. Check ice time, Bertuzzi around 1200 min and Larkin around 1300. Larkin and Bertuzzi play on first unit PP which gets most PP time. AA missed first three or 4 games to start the season, Larkin and Bertuzzi both 6 pts and Mantha 8pts in first 4 games.
