  1. What needs to change with the Boston Bruins? Um, isn’t painfully obvious at this point

Executive management needs to be shown the door and a new core needs to be built

    Proof?

When Don Sweeney took over as GM he inherited these Hall of Fame Level talent players

Bergeron Marchand Krjeci Pastrnak Chara Rask & Krug

More than half of those guys are making the Hall of Fame and probably more than that. It’s also worth noting that 5 of the 7 were either original Bruins draft picks or signed as UFAs

In 8 years as GM, name me the players that have Hall of Fame level talent that Don Sweeney has added to the Bruins via the draft, or even guys who are going to be 3 or 4 time all-stars one day?

Let’s see, it’s McAvoy and then nothing else

Don’t give me Swayman, he hasn’t even be a #1 goalie in the NHL yet

49 draft picks & 8 years as GM and here’s what Sweeney has added to the team via the draft:

Frederic Swayman Carlo Debrusk and McAvoy. 5 guys out of 49 (10.2% hit rate)

Are those five players on the level of the 7 guys he inherited in Bergeron Marchand Krejci Pastrnak Chara Rask and Krug? Um, nope & it's not even remotely close

-Frederic is a bottom 6, easily replaceable part

-Swayman is as likely to be a 3-4 time all-star is he is to play for 3 or 4 teams in the next 10 years. That’s the nature of the goaltender position

-Carlo & Debrusk are both players every Bruins fan in Boston has been trying to run out of town the past 3-4 years and both are the definition of inconsistent and kind of soft

-Then there’s McAvoy, the only guy of the bunch that (probably) has the potential to at least be a 3-4 time All-Star and maybe he has a good enough career to make the Hall of Fame but he’s got a long way to go there

When you draft and develop as poor as Don Sweeney has while also regularly pissing away draft capital for years on end to fix drafting & UFA mistakes, it eventually catches up to your organization

Spoiler Alert: It’s caught up to Don Sweeney and the Bruins

The very talented core Sweeney inherited has vastly eroded in skill and or they’ve already moved on and or retired.

The result? The team is going backwards now despite fooling Bruins Homer Nation with more meaningless regular season point totals

    Proof?

How have the last three playoff runs gone for the Bruins as this core has rotted away and no help has come from the rotten Farm System Sweeney has built?

2021- Lost to an inferior NYI team. After Carlo got hurt the Bruins turned into the Charlestown Chiefs

2022- 107 point regular season. Followed by a 1st round, Game 7, loss to Carolina where the Bruins got their lunch handed to them in all 4 games in Carolina

2023- Historic regular season where the Bruins set the NHL’s wins and points records. Followed by, yet another 1st round, Game 7 (at home this time), choke job where they fell flat on their face after having a 3 games to 1 lead and having leads in both games 6 and game 7 in the 3rd period

-In 7 of 8 years Sweeney’s Bruins have failed to win more than one playoff round (87% of the time)

-4 of the 8 years Sweeney has been GM the Bruins have either failed to quality (2016) or they lost in the 1st round (2017, 2022, & 2023) So, 50% of the time

In other words, the Bruins haven’t had much playoff success under Don Sweeney. In facts it's been about more chokes and epic fails than anything else to be honest

The one year they managed to win more than one playoff round was in 2019. How’d that playoff run end again?

Oh, that's right. With yet another epic Game 7, choke job, at home. versus an inferior STL team that fell of the face of the Earth after the Bruins gifted them the Stanley Cup in 2019

The Bruins Farm System is now ranked 28th-32nd in the NHL. It only houses two legit prospects in Lysell and Lohrei (neither of which will be helping the Bruins much next year because both need more development time)

After that, it’s nothing but a bunch of maybes, never will Bs and guys that are 3-5 years away, at best

The Bruins have the NHL’s worst draft capital situation with no 1st round pick again until 2025, no 2nd round pick until 2026 and only 3 picks, in the top 3 rounds, of the next 3 NHL Drafts COMBINED!!!!

Do you think having the NHL’s worst draft capital is going to do any wonders for an already rotten Bruins Farm System? Spoiler alert, it’s not

So under Don Sweeney the Bruins and the core he inherited have managed this in the playoffs:

-7 of 8 years failing to win more than one playoff round

50% of his years as GM, Sweeney's Bruins DNQd or lost in the 1st round

In 8 years with Don Sweeney as GM this is where the Bruins are at organizationally:

    -NHL’s Worst Salary Cap Situation:

$6M which won’t be enough to even sign even Swayman & Frederic (let alone anyone else). No 1c or 2c anywhere to be found in the organization. Only 7 forwards signed for 2023-24

    -NHL’s Worst Draft Capital:

No 1st again until 2025 and no 2nd again until 2026 and again, only 3 picks in the top 3 rounds of the next 3 NHL Drafts COMBINED!!!!

-One of the NHL’s worst Farm Systems that houses two legit prospects and not much else after that

So Don Sweeney has added little to the team

The players are choking in 1st round game 7s like it’s their mission statement as the core Sweeney inherited has basically dissolved into thin air

There hasn’t been much playoff success in his 8 years as GM and the organization has been bled dry of just about every asset they could use to improve this off-season & beyond

Could Don Sweeney have put the Bruins in a worse position in terms of their future? Um, probably not

The GM and executive management team needs to be replaced, CLEARLY!!!!

And a new core needs to built, CLEARLY!!!!

That’s where we are at with the Boston Bruins

You can deny facts & their results under Don Sweeney all you want to Bruins homers

No matter how much you try to wish them away & pretend they don't exist, sorry, they do

  2. If you trade ullmark it’s for rebuilding . Losing ullmark for bertuzzi hurts you. Unless your plans two years plus away and not next year.

  3. Trades are not what gets you there both teams in the final didn't make a trade at the deadline, we did and lost
now up against cap hard and looking at what for next year?

  4. I don’t know, but I do know it’ll sting for the bruins front office if Bruce Cassidy walks away with the cup this year.

  5. Sweeney could have tried to fix the Cassidy situation instead of firing him. I agree that the acquisitions at the trade deadline were superb but if he had done the same thing in Cassidy's system we would still be watching the B's right now. With Bergy's window closing, it was not the time to pull in a new coach to 'learn' from the situation, you needed a coach that had been there and had established a winning record. Maybe if Cassidy was still here, Krejci wouldn't have come back but Zacha was good in that spot. Maybe Debrusk would have sobbed in his cheerios but he would have gotten over it and Bergy would still play his heart out for his team and tried to go out on top. So yeah, Sweeney could have done more to avoid this.

  6. Bruins need someone that can produce consistently. Arizona has some good offensive players that can finish on the rush and in the slot area. Arizona just has poor defense. The Bruins easy could make a deal with them. Don't know why the Bruins keep the same 3rd and 4th line players. If they can't produce in the playoffs why keep them?
