The Cat is out of the bag! Alex DeBrincat and his camp have informed the Ottawa Senators that they are not interested in signing long term in Ottawa and have submitted preferred trade destinations.

I seen this coming many months ago, he never seemed happy here. His comment on waiting to see who the new ownership will be is a direct reference to DJ Smith. I guess the Cat wants a real coach to play for, can't blame him. I will say this… it will be a huge loss. It will be interesting to see who will step in.

Blessing in disguise. It is better to know now what ADB's intentions before the draft so the Sens can optimize what they get back for him in return. So what are the holes to fill? Goaltending, another Top4D and another quality Top 6 forward. If any one of those can be solidly filled plus picks/prospects (if it can't be solidly filled) then we move on. Obviously, this depends entirely on what the deal exactly looks like but that would be the framework to start with (when trading ADB).
Good. Trade him. Trade him to Arizona in a package deal and get Lawson Crouse and either Vejmelka or Guenther. Debrincat was not going to work on that second line so best to move him instead of him tying up $9M of cap space. If Debrincat wants to be a top line player, Arizona would be perfect for him, and they can build their future around him. I highly disagree with signing him short term. Especially in the locker room, they will see a guy who doesnt want to be here. How good will that do for the morale of this young core who are about to go into their primes. Move him. Rip the bandaid off this off-season.
Teams have tough choices to make but this is a no brainer…. even if he walked, the sens gain 9 million in cap space… that in itself is a huge win in tight cap situations.

I'd be surprised if he's still a Sens player by end of the month … I hope they get someone good in return… We certainly need a good goalie one way or another.. So many possibilities and to be honest I don't think offence is really our issue so even if we got a sound defensive forward that would be a great asset with the young growing firepower we have. My dream is Sarros as unlikely as that might be I'd be pumped cause there aren't that many consistent goalies in the NHL and he certainly is one.

Not surprised on this, shame he’s going but looking back at this season he never really looked happy. Looking forward to seeing who arrives on his place as I can’t see us just receiving draft picks. We are ready now to get into the playoff mix so we need players not draft picks. That being said though it would be great to have Matvei Michkov in the system even if your waiting 3 years for him. With him falling in the draft by the day we might be able to secure him plus a player in a trade although highly unlikely lol. Who knows, going to be an exciting few weeks. honestly, I think if I boo Cat or not depends on the return. I'm optimistic we're going to get more for him then we paid for him, which given the lack of high quality UFA's available is quite likely. I'm also kinda feeling like the extra cap space and the potential return at this point would make us better long term.
