Could the Penguins turn to the Jets for a forward splash?

The Pittsburgh Penguins may make a splash in their top six for this upcoming season and it could be from the Winnipeg Jets. Hunter starts the show by looking at a top forward on their team and how he could get traded since he only has one year left on his contract. Hunter analyzes how he could work at wing in the top six or at center for the third line since he’s played both positions throughout his career. He then discusses what the price to acquire him could look like and if Kyle Dubas could get the Jets to retain any salary in the deal. After that, he analyzes a defensive trade target from the Boston Bruins. Hint: he plays on the left side! Hunter provides some info on just how good of a season he had and while the Bruins may not want to trade him, they may have to since they have a cap crunch coming. Finally, he looks at Cole Caufield’s extension and how that could play into how much Jake Guentzel asks for in his pending contract talks with the team

  1. I'd expect Dubas to sort out Jake's contract ASAP, and for it to be a long-term deal, like Rust and Rakell. I see those three as a "transition core" for the team's post Sid, Kris, and Geno days. We saw that Rust and Jake are up to it, as they carried the team at the beginning of 21-22 season, while Sid and Geno were out.
That's part of why I keep saying I'd like to see Sully run Sid – Jake – and a winger, Geno – Zucker – and a winger, and Rust – Rakell – and a center to make three lines for even strength play.
I'd love to see them give the young guys a chance to win spots, prior to signing a big name, big contract player.
They could, definitely stand to dump some of those big contracts…Petry, Carter, Granlund…

Petry could, probably, go to a team that thinks that they have a shot at the playoffs, but need another solid defenseman. I don't see anyone taking Carter, unless he's hurt and they can LTIR his cap hit…as a paid favor to the Pens, like many of the big names on Arizona.
I'd be surprised to see Granlund move, other than as a part of the Petry trade.
