Josh Manson TRADE to Avalanche [REACTION]

  1. They just need some more depth in forward. They also need a hot goalie. No hot goalie, no Stanley. Up

  2. There about to make some more noise tomorrow morning you will hear about the Rangers and the Ducks -Rakell & Lindholm to the Rangers for Kravstov, Lundquist, Nemeth 2&3 rounder and a player to be named later…….

  3. Well done Sakic-fills our exact need. Go get Giroux,& you get an A+ for trying…whatever happens. But I agree it's good for Anaheim. This is actually better for them than a late 1st. We will miss Hellison in the future, but if he turns out,his comp is basically a younger Manson. Plus you get a 2nd.

Had to mention a few things though. If Byrum DOESN'T come back this season,Avs still have 1 of the best blue lines.(when Girard gets healthy). But if Byrum comes back-I think they clearly have the best current blue line,& potentially 1 of the best, since the salary cap was instituted. You kinda downplayed Toewes there, but Idude was 9th in Norris last year,& probably been even better this season. His +/- is insane,& I'd say he's a more consistent defender today than Makar. And its closer offensively than most realize. Toewes gets under rated, because Makar is his teammate. Toewes isn't remotely the goal scorer Makar is…what current dman is? But he's basically at about 1 point per game…somewhere right around that. He doesn't make the explosive,& dramatic plays Makar does-on either end. But right now,he's more solid…at least on defense. Nothing against Makar,I love him. Toewes age,& experience completely explain this.In his prime-Makar is gonna be a superstar at a level-Toewes-& most dman-cant even dream of reaching. Toewes is probably capped out at his ceiling. But a lot of people don't realize how great he is. As of today,he should get top 5 Norris consideration on his own,but might not cuz of Cale.

Girard has issues…lack of size,& toughness for 1-which get exposed more in the playoffs. Which is why I think Manson is his perfect match. They should perfectly compliment each other's weaknesses. Girard needs a tough partner to kinda stay home,& cover for him. Manson needs a puck moving partner to handle getting it up,& out. But people who wanted to just get rid of Girard before his injury are idiots. He's had a bit of a down season, but when healthy is still around a top 10ish,#3 defenseman, despite his flaws. And if Byrum comes back? He is basically already a star, with super star potential. Granted only like 40 game sample size. Last season,he didn't show much offense, but was historically great analytically-for a teenage dman. This season,he was almost as good deffensively…amazing for such a young kid. But also was bringing the offense…was just under 1 point per game himself,I think.

Byrum at 90% of the level he showed…nobody else has a 4 some remotely as good as Makar,Toewes,Girard,& Byrum. Then Manson would be your #5 guy…or at least 5th best dman… that's insane. The Johnson's struggle on the 2nd pairing…but as #6/#7 guys…they are certainly above average in that spot. Then that means Murray is #8,I guess? You'd struggle to find a better #8. Some younger kids on other teams would have a higher ceiling -but not manyif any would be better #8s right now today. And McDermott-whos pretty terrible on defense, but passable on 4th line,in certain matchups…could continue his limited, but somewhat important physical role-occasionally on your 4th line…but hopefully never have to play another second on defense…a very good thing.

I don't expect all these guys will be here next week, but all we can analyze is the roster today. Avs are clearly gonna do SOMETHING at forward still. Hopefully that means a Giroux,Miller,or Huertle type…but could be a lesser guy instead. I prefer-& predict Giroux, but would love any of the 3. I expect 1 of the Johnsons,or Murray will be "throw ins" in some trade for a forward. If it's 1 of those top guys,it'll probably also mean goodbye to our #1 dman prospect-Justin Baron,& picks…maybe also Jost,or Comper-but I'm fine with that. I wouldn't trade Newhook or Byrum-despite his scary issues-for any rental. Byrums personal future is much bigger than hockey,so we will see on him returning. But he is skating,& at least trending in a positive dirrection, for a POSSIBLE return this season. But any other pick or prospect should be fair game. Sorry Girard haters-he is hurt,& wouldnt be going anywhere anyways. But look for either of the Johnsons or Murray to probably go. If Girard,& somehow Byrum get back…that's as good,& deep of an NHL blue line,as maybe we've seen since before the cap. Merely calling them "1 of the best current blue lines"severely under rates them,my opinion. Any team would trade places for their current level,& the combined ceiling would be stratospheric.

  4. I watched Helleson play at Boston College and he was great. Scored with .1 seconds left on a coast to coast rush against BU.
