Sorry Dude, but you need to do better research. 9 RFAs with Arbitration. 4 RFAs without Arbitration, and both UFAs: Gudas and Holtby all of these have to get resigned. Why expect Sal Cap to go up? If the GMs are "expecting" Sal Cap to go up and plan on something that doesn't come, its the DANG gms fault. Poor planning by Washington management, and if memory serves, June 30th is deadline date for UFAs, right?

This could be one of those very bad deals in a year or two. A player making over 9 million per over the age of 34 (that's not Crosby Ovechkin) is risky.
As a caps fan, I’m glad the deal is done. Holtby will have to bounce because Vrana will have to sign a big deal after this year too. Facilitate that holtby money to him
The cap hit is both terrible and shocking to me. I thought Backstrom would take a discount to stay. 9M is a lot for a player in his mid thirties for the rest of his career.
The capitals will have 23 M tied up between 3 players over the age of 35 by 2025 and non of them are named Ovechkin.
I'm a die-hard St Louis blues fan but I actually like the capitals and I'm glad ovechkin is making history hopefully it will be the capitals in the blues in the finals this year.
So they want ovi to play till he is 40 and have them retire at the same time. I’m guessing Ovechkin sign 4 year deal in order to stay with backstrom till end of career

I'd be pretty surprised if a 36-37 year old Bäckström is value at that caphit.
Holtby doesn't even have a .900 save percentage this season, nobody in their right mind is giving him 8 million a year.

As a caps fan, what I HOPE and what I WOULD do, is let holtby finish this season with the caps, hopefully help bring us yet another cup, and then shake hands and let him go get a paycheck from another team. We have 3 SOLID goalies that can net mind other than Holts, and Holts isnt really something we can afford now with this deal.
I know the Isles don’t need goal tending but Holtby was always best under Korn.

I believed that Bäckström would have Cap hit close to Kuzy and about 8M but 9.2M is not bad and he will be worth every dollar of that contract if he stays healthy.
$9.2M cap hit is a bit heavy for Backstrom.
Samsonov having such a strong rookie season is why this is possible. I think Oates is a good comparison, but I do worry what this means for the future. Lots of contracts with big money and term. I'm interested to see if Kuzy, Wilson, Oshie, and Backstrom will all be on this team in 3 years. Lots of money there.

I scored a used Backstrom Reebok Edge the other month knowing full well that he wasn't guaranteed to stay with the Caps much longer, but it was worth it to finally have his jersey. Really happy that he'll be sticking around for a while longer!
I believe that the contract couldn't have been any better. And also, I watched some interview the other day where they quoted Backy that Ovi had been super curious and almost nagged on Backy about the contract, so in my opinion there's no doubt that Ovi will stay aswell. no matter what. 🙂
I think its time for Buffalo to get a fucking goalie. This basically makes a selling point. Take Holtby for say a first, A pair of prospect Dmen and for cap reasons give them Bogo.
