The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded centre Nick Bjugstad with salary retained to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a conditional 7th round pick depending on how many games Bjugstad plays with the Wild next year.
This is all coming after the Kasperi Kapanen trade, which sent the Toronto Maple Leafs forward back to the team which originally drafted him.
These moves are being made after both the Minnesota Wild and Pittsburgh Penguins were eliminated by the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs respectively.
The 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs are involving sixteen teams, which are the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Islanders, and Columbus Blue Jackets in the East, and the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, and Dallas Stars in the West.
The matchups are currently the Golden Knights VS Stars in the Western Conference Finals, and Lightning VS Islanders in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Of the Conference Semi-Final matchups, the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, and Philadelphia Flyers have been eliminated
The eliminated teams of the 2020 NHL Playoffs from the qualifying play-in series are the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Florida Panthers.
Teams eliminated from the first round of the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Washington Capitals.

Hey legooo
Wow a conditional pick for nick Bjugstad
notification sqaud
I think is was a bad trade for Pittsburgh
Bjugstad goated
My dad played hockey with Nicks dad a lot. Really cool people
Crappy trade for PIT, but it’s clearly a cap dump. With him gone I believe they got 11 mil in cap space left. With that they could sign McCann and Jarry, and possibly sign a major FA depending on what the asking prices are for them. Imo they could have gotten a 3rd or 2nd round pick for him.
Galchenyuk has to be gone. The Wild need centers especially if Staal is all done after next year. They're likely going to draft one if there's still a good one available at #9 next month as well. Between this and the Zucker trade, I'd say Guerin is doing a pretty great job so far. Bjugstad could also be used in a package including Dumba to get a #1/2 center or pick/prospect from someone else. It's going to be a fun offseason.
Are you streaming Tampa?
Hope ur feeling better soon
We just traded away a First Round pick for the 3rd line Winger and now we just got back a "Conditional 7th Rounder" for a 3rdLine Center. How does this make any sense whatsoever?
Teams need 7th round picks never know what that 7th round draft pick turns out to be hate when my team doesn’t have a 7th round pick
Legorocks99 the Penguins ALSO RETAINED HALF is Salary bud!!!
As a Pens fan I hate Jim
That's the cap crunch era
Rutherford should have retired when they won two consecutive stanley cups period.
why no stream?
Nice
How can Pens fan have any faith in Jim Rutherford?
Get better LEGO.
Dang, with trades like these, you think the Pens will trade Crosby for a conditional 4th?
It would've made more sense to buy him out. Dumb move buy Rutherford.
I understand the trade because he's been mostly injured since he came to Pittsburgh. Now the the question is who's the 3rd line center for the Pens? McCann is really a winger. You're not breaking up the Tanev, Bluger, Aston-Resse line.
Can Wild do that they will let him play 69 games, or until he scores 34 points or not
Can Wild do that they will let him play 69 games, or until he scores 34 points and then don’t play him even if he will be healthy or not
I’ve given up on GMJR tbh
Imma say it once again
How is Rutherford not fired yet
Edit:this channel is also very underrated
Low risk, high reward. Worst case he doesn’t play (or produce but I’d assume he’d produce if healthy based on his past.) and we’re out basically paying him half his salary. Worst case is we get a second line center who’s a right shot (which we lack) and re-sign him if he’s healthy and produces for a 7th round pick. I was hoping Pitt would take victor rask back (was in trade talks w them last year) but I’m happy with it for the price tag we gave up.
This was a. Very good trade for MN. He will play better here with koivu gone a good replacement now they will go after eigel
If you’re going to make a trade like that, at least have them add in a bag of pucks or something.
If he’s healthy could be a 20 goal 40 point third line center who they got for nothing seems like a great move.
Maybe I'm mistaken but I think the Pens traded Brassard as a rental to get Bjugstad and McCann. It was more of a salary dump move by Florida who were interested in picking up Bobrovsky and Panarin in the offseason, at least they got Bobrovsky. And just as the Wild hope that Bjugstad can return to form the Pens were just as hopeful. At the time they picked up Bjugstad I think he had been playing poorly and was benched. In FLA his stats were good when he was playing as a winger but he preferred to play center, maybe that caused some friction there. Seemed like the Pens were mostly interested in acquiring McCann who has play well.
I need a robin lehner extension video
Shedding salary isn’t nothing, even if some salary is retained
Nice breakdown LR99.
