He’s ready to be the back up already
Given that the Canucks are going to need a miracle to make the playoff next year anyway, I would say yes, as long as he looks good in preseason and seems NHL ready. Having said that, I could make the argument that the team needs a proven backup who can play 30-35 games in their sleep, because Demko has shown that if he’s overworked, he can be injury prone. If Silovs isn’t able to play that much at the NHL level, for the health of Demko, they should probably be looking at getting a veteran back up who can handle a decent workload. Obviously the money has to come from somewhere and this franchise has been stupid enough to get themselves into a cap mess, so that may be easier said than done. Miller seems to be making sure we never move on from that ridiculous contract and most of the other contracts are untradable. They might get a taker on Myers because his salary in real dollars is low, but with the rising salaries despite the flat cap, even teams like Arizona aren’t exactly struggling to reach the cap floor. It’s the worst possible time to be in cap hell.
Unless Demko gets injured Silvos needs to play in Abbotsford and be the starter.
After a 7-2 record to help Latvia win its country's first ever medal at the World Championships, I'd say why not give him that opportunity.
The two guys I don't want on the canucks anymore Myers and Bear. Silovs is ready for the backup. Practicing with nhl players will be good for him.

make Silov the starter and trade Demko now for a first in this year draft to save some cap space
if he's that good.. i see no point as him as a backup.. he needs games in the AHL..
This tournament shows that Silovs should be consistently playing games to continue to develop and round out his game. That's why he should be the AHL starter and get called up on occassion during homestands when Demko needs a break. He's waiver-exempt, so they should take advantage of that to allow him to have a good run throughout the season and still get NHL starts due to how close Abbotsford is and you can play Martin on back-to-backs on the road. Knock on wood, but should Demko get injured, Silovs can be our go-to goaltender and Martin can continue to be a steady backup.
