  1. Hi Paul, Aaron, Super Producer Jason,
Again thanks for going over the L.A. Kings games, it was nice to see back to back wins against (Beat) L.A.!
Sorry I missed the live show!
I really don't want Thornton back! Don't the Sharks lose enough money on their other players, than to add an old goat?

  2. Hey guys fun show. Sorry I missed it this week. My observations from the two LA games begin and end with Erik Karlson's return. Wow! Has surgery, comes back ahead of schedule with no rehab assignment to get his timing back and steps right in and it felt like he immediately put the rest of the team at ease. Played with great poise, confidence and skill and made a tremendous difference in exiting the zone (I didn't know about the shift in our 5 on 5 play so that obviously plays a factor…a FIN FACTOR! hehe) but, I couldn't help but marvel at Karlson's ability to make plays in our zone with the puck to either get the puck out or create the attack into the opposing zone. Whether he was puck handling and making short precision passes or those long distance lasers his play making in the game was in my opinion worthy of number 1 star in both games. As Reggie Jackson once infamously quipped when he was a Yankee: He is the straw that stirs the drink."

Karlson skated and passed us to a different level and I am a proponent that we cannot afford to offensive defense men. Karlson just seemed to relieve a lot of pressure both actual and mental on the rest of the team. All the guys it seems completely understand how much he means to the team. Big difference maker when we are able to break out of our zone on the first try, attack the opposing zone, forecheck and create offense instead of being stuck in our zone and desperately trying to fight off the neutral zone turn overs that seem so often to result from our struggles to exit our zone.

Often times we seem only able to get the puck out of our zone and so the counter attacking by the opposition is difficult because they are only traveling from just inside their blue line or in the neutral zone rather than the full 200. If just starts to feel like there are 6 or 7 players for the opposition because they just keep coming in waves on the fore check attacking our zone and our guys rarely are in a position where they have the puck soon enough to be able to face up ice and see where the play can be made to exit best and begin the counter rush. Pete "bird walk" sorry. Thank you Mr. Karlson.

Pavelski. I love Joe. I think arguments can be made that he is the best player ever drafted and developed by the Sharks. Drafted in the 7th round, 205th overall! Amazing hockey sense. We have never had a player who saw the game better than he does. In my opinion its his greatest attribute. Very hard working but, we have others who match that effort but, remarkable attribute none the less. Great hands and hand eye coordination. NEVER FAST. Bottom end of quick when he entered into the league as a rookie he has thrived in the league by his ability to read the play at such a high level.

The problem is he is now an older player who has lost a step so he went from below average speed to flat out slow. You might recall how many penalties he was taking when he was in his last seasons with the Sharks. He was a flagrant stick foul guy because he would try to reach since he could not use his legs to get into proper defensive position. This made him a bit of a liability in my opinion. I am very happy for hm that his career continues and I wish him nothing but, the best (so long as it's not at our expense. hehe). You will recall how those final years the Sharks were desperately trying to upgrade our team speed in a league where skating is now the coin of the realm so to speak. Every team can afford one or two guys who are below average speed we just had too many guys like that (both Joes to name two) and they were on our top two lines and power play.

So what? I bring up Pavelski because it is very possible if we pick well (Pavelski would be poster child for that)or acquire well (Marc Edward would be the poster child for this) to add talent that is capable for stepping into the league right away at age 19 or 20. Marco Strum, Patrick Marleau, Scott Hannan, Brad Stuart to name a few others. Marc Edward was a high 2nd round pick so it is possible to pick up players in a draft who can step right in and be difference makers for a team like ours that is lacking in talent. Lets hope that this year we can find another guy who can step right in and be a difference maker. It has happened before albeit usually first round picks.

Here is a question for next time: How many Sharks acquisitions (either through trade or draft) have been able to step right into the league straight away? All my best guys.

    Pete
