Really unfortunate luck for a guy who appeared to be bouncing back a bit here in Van.

I thought he really established himself as a solid #4/5 guy, who was really good at puck retrievals and played a responsible game.

Hopefully we’re able to sign him to a pretty cheap 2 year deal then.

He’ll miss a chunk of this season and the extra year shouldn’t be too bad. Imagine if we could get him for like 4-4.5mil total over two years, that’d be amazing

Dhaliwal said yesterday it was a nagging injury that he aggravated at the Worlds.

Going to the Worlds just cost Ethan Bear a ton of money.

He had a good season with us, but pls no long term deals.

    Fucks sake. Canucks hockey baby.

Given how bad their cap situation is, I’m not sure that they can afford to sign him just to have him start the season on LTIR.

Signing an injured Bear and not making other significant roster changes would mean one of two things:

    1. They start the season with an AHL level player in his roster spot, and hope that when Bear is ready to return, that he is at 100%

    or

    2. They acquire a legit replacement for him, and the have to make a salary cap dump trade once Bear is ready to come off LTIR

Should just move on from him IMO

All good. We don’t need to care about depth D.

    Is Burroughs back next year?

    Myers – Hronek – Burroughs

People downvoted me to hell for saying it was a bad idea to go to Worlds because of injury risk. Now Ethan Bear just pissed away a potentially good contract and if we even re-sign him won’t see him til December-ish. This is especially stupid cause he apparently had a nagging injury. I get players want to rep their country, especially Canadians, but come on. This was just dumb.

Two D spots open for Filip Johansson, Wolanin, Hirose, McWard, Rathbone, Brisebois, Woo, Poolman, Dermott.

    Wouldn’t mind Wolanin and Hirose.

Hope he makes a full recovery. Surely management has known for a while not to pencil him in for day 1 of the regular season and to make other arrangements.

Boy am I *not* looking forward to finding out what those arrangements are

Nice, so now we can sign him at a discount.

Wonder if they’ll just sign him to a cheap one year deal to see how things go.

Interesting he still went to the tourney despite being an rfa

At this point the best case scenario would be to not qualify him and use the 2m they would have paid him to sign someone like Soucy. Then try to get him to accept a 1×1 and negotiate a longer deal next offseason when we will have more cap space.

If Bear becomes a UFA I don’t know that there will be a ton of interest in a player who will miss almost half the season. He will likely be forced to accept less no matter where he signs now.

That sucks. Bear is a good guy who has been though a lot and he was starting to do good in Vancouver. Hopefully he fully heals and he’ll be back.
