    > That said, the team would like to have a plan in place by the start of the 2023-24 season, which includes a preseason trip by the Coyotes to Melbourne, Australia in late September.

Ended it with the interesting part for me. I’ll be curious if they have a publicly announced plan and announce it during the Melbourne games or what. Just want an answer before we kick off this year.

Interesting story about potential arena locations. According to the story, Fiesta Mall isn’t one of their top choices. The two sites stated here: near Mesa Riverview on the 202 and Alma School and SRPMIC land on the west side of the 101 just south of Indian Bend – south of the existing shopping center. The Mesa location is currently a quarry and would need more site preparation, which would obviously take more time. The SRPMIC location wouldn’t allow a sports book or residential. The fact that they’re even considering that is surprising to me as someone who thinks Meruelo cares a lot more about the Sahara than the Coyotes.

In any event, these are both probably better options location wise than Fiesta Mall. No matter, they need to get this done quickly if there’s any chance for it to succeed. Even die hard fans are losing faith. And Meruelo needs to be the one to get out there and do some community outreach, not Xavier.

Cool cool, when is the “owner” going to speak on it?

The ownership needs to come out publicly and drive hard on a site and plan.

While the lot by the Pavillions has 3 big negatives in their Tempe deal (no gambling, no residence, and not owning the land), they’d be so dumb not to work with the tribe for a sports/entertainment area right there.

The tribes seem to have been pretty good with all the local teams, and its construction ready. You have freeway access, close hotels and other events to encourage going to games, instant tribe sponsors…

    We shall see what happens.

Just wild speculation here because I don’t know how this really works, but wouldn’t it be beneficial for Muerelo to negotiate with the tribe on the gambling end of things? For example, I used to work in an office building by Talking Stick. If Sahara Bets was the only sports betting app you would use on the Reservation who cares if you lose out on 50%.

With how large Draft Kings and BetMGM and FanDuel are, it’s almost like a strategic advantage if you had the exclusive app to bet on Tribal land with. You would still be capturing bets that are occurring outside of the scope of just in/around the hockey arena.

Also, does the physical sports book need to be within a certain distance of the arena or something?
