[JFresh] Zemgus Girgensons, signed 1x$2.5M by BUF, is a low event pure defensive bottom six forward. You might like it when things happen on the ice, but Zemgus does not care for it.

Joe Marino of TCB pointed this out too but Zemgus is the exact player we’d be trying to sign in free agency anyways

evovling hockey estimates Zemgus has been the 8th best defensive forward at 5v5 over the past two season.

He’s the kind of player that if we *did* trade him at the deadline, would net us a 1st for a cup contenting team.

Too bad for them, *we’re the cup contending team, mother fuckers*.

    >Maybe bro doesn’t even like hockey and just loves skating. He doesn’t like people scoring because that’s less time he can spend skating

he is exactly what this team needs. goal scoring was not a problem and having players who can lock it down when we need it are going to be huge if we want to push a playoff spot.

That’s a deal for a one time NHL All Star!

I like Gus and I am happy to see him back. He’s an important piece of the rebuild.

This is a guy you love to have on your bottom two lines

Penalty killer, 4th line energy guy, not afraid to forecheck hard or lay heavy hits. *Every team needs their own Zemgod*

As someone who doesn’t understand advanced metrics, how can someone with such great defensive numbers have such terrible PK Numbers?

In a vacuum I don’t hate this signing. What I dislike about it is the direction of the team. Essentially we are running out the same crop of forwards as last year. I’m not begging for Kulich or Rosen to play 82 games in Buffalo, but I want a spot to be open for the young guys to get a crack. Let Savoie play his 9 games. Roll out Biro for 15-20, Rousek for 20, hell Murray should even be allowed to play 20-odd games.

While it’s still possible that those players get an opportunity, it’s essentially going to be the result of an injury or significant regression from a signed player.

I just don’t see the need to fill the roster with signed players. At the deadline Adams complained that teams were asking for more from them then they were other teams, aren’t teams going to look at the Sabres roster and say, “you NEED to make a trade, so I’m giving you pennies on the dollar”.

Can somebody explain to me how this infographic has him as an even strength defensive god and a horrible PK guy at the same time? You’d think a 98% EV defense guy would be great at the PK.
