Nick Holden Trade, A Bruins Fan’s Perspective – Tougie’s Take

The Boston Bruins have acquired Nick Holden from the New York Rangers. How should you feel about it? I don’t know.

As always, any support is more than appreciated. Feel free to follow me on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/tougie24) as well for updates, random hockey talk, giveaways, and notifications for when I’m live on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/tougie24).

  1. He needs to not play top pairing minutes and he should be okay, but not more than that. I'm a Rangers fan, and I appriciate his service to the club, but I'm glad we're taking steps to leave this terrible defense behind and it starts with this trade. Think this is fair trade both ways. Boston gets added depth which will help them in the playoffs and we get a pick and a prospect. Fair enough indeed.

  2. Holden needs to be sheltered cause what the Rangers did playing him top pair or with Staal was not the best.

  3. I think that this is a good trade for the Bruins. Rob is (at best) going to be a 3rd pair defence man and the third round pick could be anything. Nick is an NHL defence man who has proved himself multiple times and he could be really good depth for the Bruins. The Bruins used something like 10 defence men last year in the playoffs and I think that they are just trying to get insurance for this years run. Overall, I think it's a good trade for both teams only time will tell if there is a winner or not.

  4. I like this move. Can never have too much depth. We saw what happened last yr against Ottawa when we had Tommy Cross playing D. That 3rd kind of stings, but it will be a low 3rd(glass half full…lol).

  5. From a rangers fan perspective, enjoy our hot garbage, and thanks for the third

  6. As a Rangers fan, this is what you get with Holden: he's a 6th/7th defenseman on a decent team and a fairly good 3rd pair defenseman on a bad team. He is a two-way defenseman. Not particularly weak or strong at offense or defense. He definitely has skill, but almost no hockey IQ. I don't understand how a player can go from so good to so bad in a manner of minutes. One second he makes a great play. The next second his positioning makes you wonder how in the world did he become an NHL defenseman. In New York, I believe he was unfairly criticized, as I put most of the blame on the coach, who put him on the 1st pair. Now that he's going to play 3rd pair minutes (if that) on a good team, I think he will do much better. All in all, decent two-way depth defenseman with skills but no hockey IQ/defensive awareness.

Even though most 3rd round picks never make the NHL, I still think the Rangers won this trade. But not by a long shot or anything. We got him for a 4th and sold him for a 3rd and a prospect with meh upside. We weren't going to resign him anyway.

  7. He's not a top pairing guy, but he had a career year last year, so he should provide good depth for the Bruins. It's always nice when my two favorite teams execute a trade

  8. Nash is a beast but you took Holden. HAHAHAHAHA! The guy is a turnover machine. He'll make you think he's ok, especially when he scores a goal or two. But wait for it……

  9. AV is a fine coach. Rangers fans are dumb (said by a Rangers' fan). It's Tom Renney's fault, it's Torts' fault, it's always the coach's fault. Or it's Gaborik's fault, or Nash's. Stop whining. It was totally Holden's fault though. lol. He's terrible. That being said, he sucked less this year vs last. So things are looking up for him.
