With Vinzenz Rohrer signing with Zurich in the Swiss A, the Canadiens now have an additional two years to sign him.
Initially, due to being drafted out of the OHL, the Habs had until June 1 2024 to sign him.
They now have until June 1 2026.

He played in Switzerland his whole life except the last two years in Ottawa. It’s honesly best case scenario for him and for us.
How would this affect his rights? CHL players right are retained only for 2 years if they remain unsigned, Euro players rights are retained for 4 years if left unsigned

It’s a form of contracts limit circumvention, letting Rohrer play in Europe from 20 to 22 instead of having to sign him just to play in Laval.
That’s fine. We can’t expect every draft pick to pan out. There’s an expected logjam for forwards. He probably needs to be elsewhere to shine before coming back.
