Either Morgan Reilly or Austin matthews are better than Tavares.
Ask this about his 60 goal year… he was playing injured this year and Morgan Rielly was literally a ghost all regular season. Give Matthews the C and he will work harder to represent it. Instead of a lot of the leadership going to boring ass Tavares.

They should have made him captain instead of Johnny but he had to show his but cheeks to a security guard. Then when they didnāt give it to him he could f around more and now he aināt cap material. They messed up not giving it to him initially, he woulda risen to the occasion

I think if Toronto was any other team, the C would go to Reilly (as a he's shown to be a leader without the C).
But I think they need a total buy in and for him to take on more of a leadership role.
I think giving him that responsibility is a chance they have to take (fair or not). No better time than the present.
If I was making $11M+ a year until I retired, you bet your lunch money I'd make it work. I'm sure he will too or it'll just be the same tune until real change comes marching in.
followed the leafs more than usual this year, and I was amazed how Matthews always seems half-stoned, and depressed. Just no energy or leadership to him at all. So no, not C material. C isn't best player, but best communicator or leader.

He wouldnāt drop the gloves for any teammate of his. Doesnāt mean he canāt be captain, but donāt you want a leader who would run through a wall for his team? Serious culture issue for the leafs, never a problem with skill but a problem with imposing their will and physically being up for a challenge.
Austin is not a captain

Marner is that team. Without Marner, they're toast
