Alex Newhook Highlights | Welcome to the Montreal Canadiens

Alex Newhook has just been traded to the Montreal Canadiens. This is a great trade for the Montréal Canadiens because Newhook has a lot of potential to become a top 6 forward. He already has Stanley Cup experience at such a young age. Newhook has a tremendous amount of speed and agility. I think this trade is going to help the Montréal Canadiens to take the next step in their rebuild.

I like Newhook, but as Av fan-dude was inconsistent,& somewhat soft-more so mentally at times-than physically. Still young,& has time to change-but he just disapeared too often,& I dont think was ever gonna live up to the hopes we had for him here. He did get better deffensively & played a small role on our stacked 2022 Cup team.
Kid is unselfish,& does try to play both ends. But the thoughts of him replacing Kadti at 2c was always lunacy to me. In the end-he couldnt even step up to a lesser degree. Avs had were the most injured deffending champ in 3 decades last yr,& MASSIVELY overachieved to somehow still win the central. But Newhooks underachievment/lack of growth was 1 of the biggest factors in our 1st round loss.
I will pull for him-cuz he is a good kid,& plays hard. He is not gonna be a problem attitude or effortwise. And processwise he was pretty darn good-but he just didnt finish or produce enough consistently. On a team that showed amazing resilience last yr-with beyond unfair injuries-I thought Newhook was the most egregious underachiever. But it wasnt lack of effort-more so lack of confidence.
And much of the reason why,is how high my hopes were for him-although I never believed he was ready to replace Kadri at 2c. He still does have a pretty good ceiling of potential,& playing on a team thats rebuilding,& doesnt have pressure to win the Cup next yr-maybe thatll give him time to grow into his potential.
On the other hand-the media pressure in Montreal is gonna be far greater,& I do worry bout how he reacts to that increased scrutiny. Here in Denver he got criticism-but kinda slid under the radar-mainly cuz he was playing on such a stacked team. As the injuries piled up last yr-he rightly got more criticism as the yr went on. But the pressure of playing in Denver in the NHL is not remotely comparable to the scrutiny of playing in Montreal. The Avs are big here-but not like the Habs there. Broncos will always get the most attention here,& the Rockies get far more than they deserve. Avs are big-but arguably not even the most popular tennant of Ball arena-as the reigning NBA champ Nuggets. Avs 2022 parade drew bout 500,000…Nugs title parade about 750,000,& Broncos SB parade in 2016 about 1 million. That kinda sums up Denver in a microcosm. Newhook will always be a part of our 2022 Cup team & he is a good kid,& teammate. I will pull for him-especially since hes in the East. I dont know if he will ever reach his potential-but hopefully so. Im kinda becoming a bit of a Montreal fan,as I pull for Justin Baron, appreciate the Habs for sending us Lehkonen…a huge part of our Cup run,& now Newhook.
