This is it. Today is the day. We’re going to make at least 1 trade and this sub will debate well into the wee hours about our pick at 9.

I wanted to take on this task for you all so you knew what BJ album to put on based on today events. Is it a generational day for our Wings or just solid – now you have a celebration blueprint!

My bold prediction for this draft was going to be Dvorsky to the Habs at 5. With the Newhook trade, I’m being forced to go to my 2nd bold prediction which is Oliver Moore will go 8th to Washington. They are looking to possibly trade Kuznetsov and Moore is almost a perfect replacement.
I will take one of Moore/Benson later please. Will take both if possible.

#Final NHL Mock Draft
**1. CHI – Connor Bedard**
Easy pick for the Hawks as they get a generational center, a true superstar to build around
**2. ANA – Adam Fantilli**
There’s not much doubt here. A great center who could go 1st in every draft since Hughes, and it’s a debate there
**3. CBJ – Leo Carlsson**
Player who would go 1st in many other drafts. NHL ready type of player that fits the Jackets theme this offseason
**4. SJS – Will Smith**
First big decision. The Michkov situation is too uncertain and I don’t see Grier taking that swing with a super skilled center sitting right there
**TRADE MTL (5) <—> PHI (7)+**
**5. PHI – Matvei Michkov**
Not only is Michkov worth taking, he’s worth trading up for. PHI has the assets needed and all the patience as a rebuild looms. They might not need to trade up but will because it ensures WSH or DET won’t do it
**6. ARI – David Reinbacher**
The first defenseman goes here, and it’s a good pick to go with Arizona’s good crop of young forwards and forward prospects
**7. MTL – Ryan Leonard**
True playoff type of player to add needed grit to the Habs skilled top line. Would’ve likely been the pick at 5
**8. WSH – Nate Danielson**
Team with no true direction and many needs. Two way center they see as the most ready available, but also hope his upside is higher than it seems
**9. DET – Dalibor Dvorsky**
Hard choice between Dvorsky and Benson, who I think Stevie would draft in an alternate scenario. Dvorsky is a relatively safer pick; he might not hit, but if he does, he can become the best center in the organization. Great two way game, high compete, and sneaky upside make this an attractive value pick to potentially fill our biggest need
**10. STL – Axel Sandin Pellikka**
This is where the draft opens up, but don’t discount ASP’s upside. The Blues need a top defenseman, he could be it
**11. VAN – Colby Barlow**
The goal scoring and leadership is enviable for an NHL GM. Not the guy the Nucks should take, but it’s not bad
**12. ARI – Zach Benson**
There was consideration for him at 6, and they’ll be thrilled to have him at 12. Undersized but has star potential
**13. BUF – Tom Willander**
The Sabres have a need at RD, and he should pair well with their defense core. Will provide stability for years to come
**14. PIT – Oliver Moore**
The right pick for Dubas, a center with potential. A great player to play under Crosby at the tail end of his career
**15. NSH – Matthew Wood**
The Preds will take a big swing here, and Wood is the player with the highest potential and uniqueness
**16. CGY – Dmitri Simashev**
The Flames are in trouble, and they could use help anywhere. Simashev could fill a hole left by Hanifin
**17. DET – Samuel Honzek**
Stevie seems high on Honzek and if he pans out he could be a good contributor. We need help at forward and right defense, and the board falling like this means Honzek is the best choice. Not my personal pick here (Perreault) and I think trading up to 14 makes sense (Moore) but I’m still happy
I don’t know anything about these prospects, and the past shows that none of you do either! Hopefully they draft a good player that makes an impact now or later!

Players I like but will be disappointed if we take at 9

Potentially unpopular opinion: I hope we don’t have our 9th or 17th picks today, give us DeBrincat & Konecny!
It’s not a big deal either way, but I wouldn’t mind signing Luke Glendening as a free agent. He’s so really good at face offs and it’d be helpful to have at least 1 righty center. Not to mention he’s basically Ovechkin with the backhand. Also reliable for the 4th line too in a role that isn’t meant to be filled by a young guy/prospect and easy to scratch if needed.
Not a needle mover by any means and there’s certainly multiple options out there for that role. He looked solid in the Stars games I caught when he played (although numbers could say otherwise)
