This might be Treliving/MLSE pressuring Nylander through the media. Basically saying, “We need to get closer together on AAV, or else we’ll start seriously shopping you and you won’t be here.”
They’re not going to let Nylander walk for nothing, which makes sense, so I hope they’re able to get something done because I don’t want to see Nylander in another jersey. He’s the only one out of 34, 16, and 88 who has actually outplayed his current contract.

I like that Tree is taking a stand. Shanny was big on guys taking less so they can win. This better not be an only Nylander thing though. When Marner comes up they better keep this same energy and arguably even moreso.
Having said that he’ll get the same thing Timo Meier does and his deal is rumoured to get done before July 1.

As a fan, I’m all for guys giving discounts to the Leafs. However, in this case asking Willy to sign in for $8.X is an insult to the guy. He’s on a deal that provided good value to the club and he delivered with 40G and over a point per game in this last season.
I’d be happy with $9M flat. He might be worth a little more than that.

This tweet literally makes no sense. Of fucking COURSE they’re prepared to go into July 1st with Matthews unsigned – he literally CANNOT sign before July 1st. Same for Nylander. Neither of them can sign extensions until the beginning of the final year of their contracts – which **starts** on July 1st.
