Honzek was taken, this is the way. Great pick to replace Hronek in a few years.

  2. CD23tol

Hronek for ASP and a 2nd

Turn that 2nd into ADB next Steve

  3. The lack of drafting a scoring winger is telling to me

    I don’t mind this pick

  4. ts1234666

We just replaced Filip Hronek. This guy is going to be so good

  5. Wheresthesass

I’m just happy we got Swedeman Europeansson

Little later than I expected but it’s him dammit. And he’s actually Swedish this year.

No clue about him whatsoever otherwise.

  6. dudewithchronicpain

Yzerman is so predictable when he wants to be lmao

  7. bennyb443

Needed a high end RD prospect. Hopefully can slot into our second line RD in a couple years after we sign a bridge this offseason

I feel like Yzerman is for sure cooking something else up on the wing, like DeBrincat. I feel like we need a game breaking wing and we didn’t pick one in the first round, which leads me to believe there’s a plan elsewhere.

Excited to get deeper on defense too. Can never have enough of those defensemen.

    Edit: cooking

Absolutely not happy with this pick. We trade Hronek just to take a smaller version of him offensively. He’s also 5’11 which is a firm no for me on defense unless you’re taking a game changer, which pelikka isn’t. We need goal scoring, Barlow is right there, Perreault is right there. We took a guy who is 4 years from the show and at something that is a strength of ours on defense (yes he’s RHD but we can always get those in free agency or switch one of wallinder or Johansson over). Just such a safe pick, and not anything that moves the needle whatsoever. Oh and to make matters worse, I think he needs a lot of work in his own zone.

Edit: and Barlow goes right after us. We ever going to score goals? Or are we going to continue to be 32nd in 5v5 goal scoring.

I hope that rumor about us drafting a kid for Ottawa is bullshit because I really like this pick.

  11. zze0001

Great pick ! Didn’t love Danielson but love this one. High ceiling player who can quarterback on the powerplay. Lots of points coming from him potentially.

  12. jfstompers

Good value at 17, I’d still would have preferred a skilled forward especially considering our pick at 9 but kid can be really good.

  13. Another year, another prospect I loved that goes somewhere else, good luck Moore 😭

    This pick is sick though

  14. Background_Junket_35

14th in the hockey news, 22nd for Pronman, 16th for wheeler

  15. Attila_the_Chungus

Like the pick. Another player who can help in transition where we really suck. Just didn’t expect Yzerman to pick an average-sized defenseman in the first round.

  16. cutyourhair

On my personal list he was in the “no thank you” tier, but a lot of people who’s opinion I respect a lot think very highly of him, so I’m open minded. If he pans out that’s a lot of offense generated from the back.

  17. Jeez-essFC

It’s all so weird. On average, the media had him ranked above Danielson.

  18. William Wallinder is like, well, fuck. No chance he’ll get to play RD in Detroit with Seider and ASP there.

  19. Traded Hronek for the next hopefully better Hronek

  20. _brasch

Yeah dude. Love it. He’s gonna be a real good PP QB. Honestly am surprised we took him because of his lack of defense, but he is definitely a very good dman anyways.

I know some might not be happy with our first round, but the way I see it, we got two things the pipeline absolutely needed: a center and a RHD. That’s getting organizational needs and they both either entirely or mostly fit the mold of what Detroit is doing, so I consider this a pretty big win.

  21. TJ_Longfellow

You can absolutely not have too many good puck moving defensemen, very much like this pick. Still a C- on the night, unless we end up with Debrincat or Konecny afterward, then I can be more forgiving of the reach for need at 9.

  22. MidwestTroll

Don’t wanna be that person but NHL comp is Erik Karlsson good pick lol

  23. DangerousStorage1

Honestly I haven’t been paying attention to the draft this year. Should I feel good about this? Looks like I should

  24. ChuckFeathers

Wings. Making out like bandits at the draft again.

  25. zze0001

Axil Sandin Pellikka drove to Nashville from NY last night because of travel. He was driving with his agent, his parents in car behind them.

Said each time his car went over speed limit his mom would call agent and tell them to slow down

  26. Anyone have a video of either pick? Specifically the player going on stage and shaking hands/taking pics.

  27. AstroWraith

Good pick, as a Seattle fan I wanted him to fall to 20th. Really happy for you all, I hope he does great things there. Should be a solid player.

  28. GhostofSpades

So I hope ASP crushes it. I hope he is so good. But if he is just Hronek at his best this past year when the team still wasn’t good enough and still takes 3 years to get there what are we doing?

Who is increasing the goals for, for this team from what it was at its peak this past season. Even if Kasper and Danielson are both better than Copp who is burying their passes?

I don’t dislike the players. I just wish I had a better feel for where the first line reinforcements were coming from

  29. Accomplished_Gas3922

It shocks me that a GM who got drafted as an “elite goal-scoring talent” and later was beaten into
playing a playing responsible two-way game has selected responsible two-way players after winning three cups.

Connor McDavid couldn’t carry the Oilers past the 2nd round and has yet to do so. Vegas did it with a bunch of tradesmen and six solid drafts. I’m not sure how much more evidence is needed.
