The full bit about Hanifin from LeBrun:

    > Several teams, including Florida and Boston, have shown interest in Noah Hanifin, but the Flames have not been presented with anything close to what they believe is fair value. My understanding of the situation, as of Thursday, is that first-time GM Craig Conroy has let teams know he’s not going to sell low on Hanifin — he will be patient and wants to see a proper trade play out. If that acceptable trade doesn’t pan out this summer, then so be it. The Flames are prepared to have Hanifin come back to training camp still part of the team.

    > The opening of free agency Saturday could help move things along as far as other teams who have interest in Hanifin. Perhaps they take a swing at UFA Dmitry Orlov, strike out and then circle back with more serious trade offers. That’s a distinct possibility. But whatever the case, Conroy is prepared to be patient.

It’s the right move. We can always trade him mid season or at the deadline; and there is no need to move him before free agency opens up.

Good. Hanifin is (or at least should be) an incredibly high value asset that we desperately need to hit on.

Hanifin wreaks of a deadline deal, where the seller is also a buyer.

As nervous as it makes me entering the season with Hanifin unsigned, this is 100% the right call.

I like the idea of maximizing his value instead of getting stuck with pennys, but I don’t entirely understand the Toffoli move then if we were going to run it back this season when we were already in need of a top six winger before the trade

But I guess worst case we are busy at the deadline which makes things interesting

Definitely can wait until the trade deadline at this point. Teams get desperate around that time. Let’s just hope we don’t end up in a bubble playoff spot and hang onto everyone.

This totally works. Lindholm is the one I’m more worried about.

Hanifin will get good value any time, and maybe we go into the season and he decides he’s on board with where the team is going and re-signs.

Lindholm on the other hand makes me nervous because we’d get so much more for him during the summer than at the deadline I think.

I like this in theory, but if the Flames are in a playoff spot next season Conroy better have the balls to trade him still.

GMs probably lowballing seeing if Craig is rattled and going to sell too fast

Its incredibly important that GMCC shows that even though he’s a rookie that doesn’t mean he’s going to bend over and let some savvy veteran GM pull one over on him.

I get that we can’t rush but what if we’re in a playoff spot come next years trade deadline? Are we really going to trade a top 4 D when we’re in a playoff spot? Probably not. I still prefer we trade him during the off-season

They are already talking the 2024 Draft being as deep as this years so filling the bank for 2024 does not upset me

  14. assassinfred

Good. This is exactly how he should be approaching things. He has no reason to rush anything. Being patient and getting the right deal is a good thing.

  15. We’re so fucked. This was the strategy one year ago when it wasn’t league wide obvious we’re playing an already folded hand.

Yo why is the thumbnail 2 completely different teams lmao

I like the defence, including Zad. I don’t post here because my view of hockey is 1980s but if you look at the best teams Calgary doesn’t need skill or balance—it needs something intangible that wins those OT and one goal games. The team seems much more resilient now than the past and better built for playoff hockey. Not sure what the missing link is but it may just be a coach between Sutter and all the previous skill oriented coaches. Just my two cents as a hockey guy for 40 years.
