Lots of RFAs will also not be receiving their qualifying offers and will become UFAs. Those are obviously younger players.

Deadline for qualifying offers is today 5PM ET, full list of new available players will come out later today, there could be some interesting names

**An update: Wheeler apparently only wants to play in the Eastern Conference.**

What would a Duchene contract look like?

    3×3?

  3. Strict-Caterpillar38

Not sure if Duchene or Wheeler would be all that cheap.

Canucks already have a Yamamoto at home with Hoglander.

Reilly could be of interest to the Canucks though.

Duchene didn’t play much at center last season, or at least didn’t take many faceoffs.

71gp, 259 face offs taken (average of 3.65 face offs per game), but won 52.9%.

Duchene 3 million for 2 years seems like s plausible deal, but I doubt for us.

Reilly isn’t really an nhl defender anymore but he would be on our team.

RoR would be nice at a decent price. A *DECENT* price… I know it’s not Benning at the helm, but I gotta admit, 8 years of free agency horrors doesn’t have me optimistic even still 🫠

  7. mephnick

Duchene hasn’t played centre in 2 years

    He’s a winger and a bad fit

The JT hate in the fan base would pale in comparison to the amount of shit Duchene would get. He would be the whipping boy to end all whipping boys in this market. In all seriousness though Duchene doesn’t make sense for us unless he was dirt cheap. Not defensively strong and doesn’t PK. Also worth mentioning that Duchene wears out his welcome everywhere he goes, is his rumoured culture issues worth it?

Reilly only playing 10 games last year worries me. But on a cheap 1 year deal as a depth guy? Sure, why not?

We already have a glut of wingers so Wheeler and Yama are no bueno. Other guys have to be moved out before bringing other cheaper wingers in.

Honestly, the more players are the market the better, it will drive down salaries in a time no one has cap space

Duchene won’t be all that cheap, and he’s coming off of a miserable season and having a serious injury. Plus, he will probably want to go to a team that has a chance to win in the playoffs.

We’ve got around 6.4M burning a hole in Allvin’s pocket right now.

Please for the love of god do not throw that at any of these players long term. You convince Duchene to take a 6×1 then fine, but we have Pettersson due next season so be thrifty please.

I am begging you not to Benning this, Canucks FO. Begging you. Let me have hope for the future, *please.*

Wheeler’s locker room issue rumors are so, so bad they’re most likely true. Duchene’s at least still sound like rumors.

    Yams already traded.

Reilly only seems normal because the rest are such worse ideas in comparison.

Mike Reilly isn’t good. He was a third pair on the shitty Ottawa Senators 4 years ago. He’s never seen enough time in sheltered role in Boston. Don’t waste the money.

If we are overpaying, I hope it’s for a legit top 4 D who can play 20+ minutes. The only forward I am okay with overpaying is Ryan O’Reilly. He’s like a better Horvat and incredibly clutch. Would strengthen us down the middle and increase our PK ability by a mile.

  15. YVRscout

Gotta imagine Duchenne gets ~$4 mil a year on a 2 year deal.

Dude can still skate and is good for 2C production

  16. Zamboni2022

Matt Duchene would low key he an amazing third line center. He would add amazing scoring depth and he also kills penalties and is good on the face off no? 2×3 and you’re talkin

  17. I’d honestly be fine with giving yams a super affordable deal, like sub 2m. I’m of the opinion that I’d prefer our middling forwards to be younger as opposed to 30+. Depending on if the club ships out Beau and garland, I feel like there’s potential there.

  18. I wouldn’t want Wheeler in that locker room. He’s locker room cancer.

  19. Shironye

If Duchene would actually sign for a decent deal, I would be interested.

  20. magoomba92

I thought most UFA signings usually end up being mistakes.

  21. PathThatIsNoPath

Van frees up cap space for once. Has big holes to fill on D. Goes all in on a forward, probably a winger in FA…. please not again.

  22. tantalum2000

Hard pass on Yamamoto. Struggled while getting ample chances with the best centers in the world.

Hard pass on Duchene. Still has gas left in the tank but the Canucks young leadership group does not have the experience to keep him in check.

Wheeler hard pass. His attitude the last few seasns bothers me

O’Reilly…yes if it’s cheap and limited to 2 years. In no way should they be getting involved in long term big money with him.
