  1. I’m really happy with the pick. Sure, they passed on some quality forwards but they picked the best defenseman available. They had to do something about their prospect pipeline on defense.

  2. It really boosts your confidence in scouting when they have an eye on someone and he actually matures right in front of their eyes. His offense is skewed by converting to Defense.

  3. Do you ever have a negative take? Do you ever come right out and criticize teams, GMs or players? When do you not present the bright side, especially when it's related to the Canucks? These are, in my view, valid criticisms of what in general is an excellent hockey channel.

  4. when i read the name "Willander" and my first thought was it was some sort of new nickname for William Nylander lol

  5. Apparently the Canucks took a few of the prospects they thought would be around at 11 out to dinner and met about 5 of them and they had decided on Nate Danielson or Tom Willander. Since Danielson was already taken, I can see why they took Willander. Apparently they REALLY didn't get a good impression of Benson, which makes some sense. He dropped to 18. Eh 🤷‍♂️ who knows what's going through the minds of these scouts?!

  6. You might want to consider doing two at a time in order to hit the sweet spot of 10min runtime. Either way thanks for the continued coverage. We appreciate you

  7. The highlights I've seen show great skating ability, a great sense of when to pinch, some hands down low (he was formally a forward ), and a great first pass. Looking forward to seeing how he is utilized by BU next year.

  8. I wasnt happy with this pick but after seeing his interviews im thrilled finally a first round pick that wants to be here was really nice to see Well spoken young man as well

  9. If Willander projects as a Top 4/25 point guy & 2-way defenceman, would his comparable be like Matt Roy or Nick Jensen? Not bad players, but those guys aren’t really 11th overall worthy. Let alone in the potentially most stacked draft ever. I thought he had a higher ceiling IMO 😭

  10. Smooth skating, puck-moving defensive defenseman? Every team wants those.

  11. He’ll certainly have a less tough row to hoe than David “Why didn’t we draft Michkov, who is this guy Carey Price couldn’t even remember?” Reinbacher.

  12. Some lists and a lot of mock drafts put him higher. Second point, he only became a forward two years ago, and has been concentrating on learning defence so far. He will be working his tail off to improve his offensive performance. If I had money to lay a bet, I'd say that he ends up a top-pairing guy.

  13. When he wore #23 at the draft it brought me back to nostalgia…to the Sedin’s last game. Daniel Sedin (#22) scored at 2:33 in overtime, it was his 2nd goal of the game. His first goal came at the :33 mark of the 2nd period – his 22nd goal of the year, assisted by Alex Edler (#23) and Henrik Sedin (#33). Alex Edler had 2 assists. Henrik Sedin had 2 assists. Tom Willander looked up to 2 Sedin’s growing up. Tom Willander is the long waited succession in replacing 2 defensemen, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Alex Edler who both wore #23. Tom Willander is projected to be a #3, 2nd pairing d-man. 2+3=5. Willander wears jersey #5. Very weird and interesting at the same time

  14. He sounds good though I don't hear anything as to whether he plays physically or not. I prefer to have at least 2 D men who are like bears when an opposing forward gets near the crease.

  15. We have no second rounder, so we weren't gonna get Willander if we don't draft him in the first round. The bigger question is whether there was a chance to trade our first round pick for a lower first rounder plus extra picks…
